Cruel and Unusual TU Football Schedule?
Published: 3/23/2011 1:41 PM
Last Modified: 3/23/2011 2:12 PM

Here's what you people who sponge off the internet miss.

Check that, here's what you people who get the sports off the internet miss: Opening the pages and scanning the stories and headlines and focusing on something like the following.

At OU.
At Tulane.
OSU.
At Boise State.

That, good people, is a list of TU's first four football games this season. Four road games. At three top ten teams. At two or three top five teams. Granted, Tulane stinks. But it beat UTEP and Rutgers a year ago. Sandwiched between OU and OSU, it will seem much spicier.

This has to be the worst schedule in the history of any sport in any country on any planet.

The person who did this to the TU players and fans should apologize and request forgiveness.

"We're willing to play anybody, anytime, anywhere"

Ah, yes, wishes do come true in the Land of Oz.

Mr. Picker,

The OSU game will be played at Chapman Stadium on Skelly Field on September 17.

Yes, the schedule is tough for any team. The key for TU is their depth.

The OSU game is at TU.

Foulshot and Classic, thanks, you're right, the OSU game is at the neutral site when it comes to playing the Cowboys, TU's stadium.

Can't believe I have to spell this out for the two above me but:

OSU game at Skelly = Road game for TU.

Crowd will be 75% orange. At least.

Technically, OSU is a home game for TU. However, most of the fans at that game will be OSU fans. So, it will feel very much like a road game for TU. When OU came to town a few years back, about 75 percent of the fans were rooting for OU. The same thing will happen with OSU in town.

There isn't a single major conference college football team that would have this tough a schedule. TU is doing this to make a few extra bucks. However, is it really worth starting off the season 1-3 (or possibly 0-4) just to earn a few extra bucks? I think not.

No wonder the coach left for Pittsburgh.

Pads,

I was pointing out that Mr. Picker had stated that the game was at Stillwater.
Yes, a great deal of the fans will be cheering for OSU. But if playing a football game in Tulsa is such an advantage to OSU why don't they do it every other year? It's because they know that they have a great chance of losing.

Shot,
I can assure you that no one inside the OSU AD is worried about this game. Perhaps TU should be worried about OSU putting up 60+ again?

Why doesn't OSU play in Tulsa every season? Because OSU can collect revenue for having an additional home game instead of selling out Skelly. And Bubba/TU aren't self-aware enough to give Holder/OSU fair terms for a scheduling agreement. 3 for 1 should be the going rate for a B12/CUSA agreement.

No, playing OU and OSU the same season makes no sense at all.

pads.
So, if the OSU folk are not worried, you sure seemed to be.
So, you don't think they should play TU, but you want to spend your money to see OSU play these teams instead, (which have all played at Stillwater in the last 5 years...Fla. Atlantic, Sam Houston, Troy, (remember at Troy in '07?) Rice, Montana St., Ark,St. Yes, TU was out of the game last year after the opening kickoff, but the school will still play OSU, even though the last 13 times the game has been at Stillwater, OSU has won. The last 10 times OSU has played in Tulsa, Tulsa has won six, OSU four. So what are you afraid of? Seems to me if OSU plays in Tulsa you can still see your team win and not have to drive to Hooterville to see it. Only an Aggie would complain about that..good night.

OSU fans will not out number TU fans 75% to 25% this year. Yes OSU did have a majority in 2000 the last time they came to TU, but that was when the stadium held 40,000 now it holds only 30,000. That’s 10,000 less OSU fans for the game this year compared to 2000. The OSU and OU games are reason why I like the size of Chapman Stadium, it gives TU a home game against those 2 schools.

fshot.
Your reading comprehension is about as poor as your economic sense.

I never said OSU shouldn't play TU. I said TU/Bubba won't agree to the going rates for a B12/CUSA scheduling agreement. Their loss. Plenty of other non-AQ teams for OSU to beat up on.
DomoArrigato (last year)
I thought that TU didn't have a chance against Notre Dame last year....so I guess that I am as smart as dah Knows Picker when it comes to TU against big name teams.
MexiMike (last year)
Pick, I read your stuff on the internet--are you taking a jab at yourself?

But you're right. That is a really, really tough non-conference schedule and likely to only end up with one win (against Tulane).

Foulshot, this isn't the 90's. OSU fans are not afraid of getting beat by TU. And no, OSU does not have a great chance of losing to them every other year. That is beyond comical.
huricandeoro (last year)
LOL at OSU fans.
MexiMike (last year)
65-28, Huricandeoro.

Laugh it up.
tulsandn (last year)
I think scheduling Okie St. & OU on a yearly basis would be great, so what if we don't win, we still get a shot at them & if the TU coach recruits predominately Oklahoma kids then it's a guaranteed all-out effort by the out-manned Golden Hurricane....

I'm always happy with all-out efforts that hold nothing back....
huricandeoro (last year)
No you misunderstood Mike. You're an aggie so that's not surprising. I was laughing at OSU fans, not the players. You have a fine team, but you and other OSU fans are quite easy to laugh at. Still LOL at OSU fans.
MexiMike (last year)
Yawn. Anything else, huricandeoro?

Sorry if I don't get too bent out of shape about a guy who still uses AOL chatroom acronyms.
