Dean Clark's Dream Week
Published: 6/25/2010 1:25 PM

Dean Clark, who was a well-known Tulsa World sports writer back in the 1970s and 1980s, had a dream week.
Clark, who made a living covering college football and basketball, absolutely loves tennis and soccer.
In fact, Clark was the original beat writer on the Tulsa Roughnecks - mainly because he was the only guy on the staff that knew anything about the sport.
He spent hours trying to explain the offsides penalty to the rest of us on the sports staff.
So, when soccer and tennis took center stage this week, Clark loved it.
First, he saw Landon Donovan score one of the biggest goals in U.S. soccer history to win its group at the World Cup.
Then, that was topped by John Isner's 11-hour, 5-minute victory over Nicolas Mahut, the longest tennis match in history, at Wimbledon.
We're guessing Clark saw every point of the 70-68 fifth set.

It's nice to see that somebody in the business respects these two sports and is excited to write about them. As a tennis player and a fan of the game and its athletes, I enjoy reading the opinions of other avid fans. Let's get Mr. Clark some more page space to give his views. And a big congratulations to John Isner and Nicolas Mahut for their epic battle. They were true competitors and gentlemen in their match and after.
