Detroit Sooners update: Broyles off to encouraging start

Detroit rookie wide receiver Ryan Broyles worked some during the Lions' first organized team activity (OTA) Monday. Veteran wide receiver Titus Young did not, apparently.

Take that as the first positive sign that Broyles is going to be just fine with his new team.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Broyles did some drills before working on some routes with quarterback Matthew Stafford and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. "One-on-one attention," Broyles called it. Can't beat that.

Then there was this quote from Lions wideout Nate Burleson: "Right now he's bouncing back off an ACl. I bounced back off an ACL. So we were talking last week, and I was like, 'Man, just stay patient, continue to train hard and you're going to come back stronger than ever.' I'm a testament to that. I'm excited."

Some thought Broyles' patience might be tested due to the presence of Burleson, Young and Calvin Johnson in Detroit's receiver rotation. Young is the Lions' second-year slot receiver who poses the biggest threat to playing time.

He is also the receiver who allegedly sucker punched teammate Louis Delmas during voluntary workouts last week. And while the team isn't calling Young's absence from OTAs a "suspension," you can draw your own conclusion.

Broyles should be too busy rehabbing that knee of his to get into any scrapes with his teammates. He handled business his last four years at Oklahoma like a pro. You wouldn't think that would change now that he is one.

It's not like the Lions or going to cut Young, who was very productive in his rookie season. It's also not like Broyles is going to just disappear and let the three vets catch all of Stafford's passes. He is only going to get stronger, and more comfortable in the Lions' system. It won't take long for him to adapt.

Keep misbehaving, Young might find it also won't take long to lose his position to the rookie from OU.
