Did Saban, LSU foul up 2004 Sugar Bowl?

The ripples of the Bill "Beli-cheat" story are flowing beyond the NFL and into college football.

Consider that Mark Richt has closed practice for the first time in his seven years as Georgia head coach, allegedly over concerns that the Bulldogs have been spied on.

Maybe it's a coincidence that Georgia plays Alabama this Saturday, and that Alabama is coached by Nick Saban, and that Saban was Belichick's defensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns from 1991-94.

Seeing too many black helicopters you say? Well then explain this passage from Ivan Maisel's column on ESPN.com:

"Four years after the Sooners lost the BCS championship to Saban's LSU Tigers 21-14 in the Sugar Bowl... (Oklahoma coach Bob) Stoops said he 'may have made a mistake' by having the Sooners practice in the cavernous Louisiana Superdome in the days leading up to the game.

"'In hindsight, I would not have. I would have gone to some high school and hopefully have a lot fewer people [around] and [it would] be a lot more flexible with time. … I'm not saying that in any negative way toward Nick. I'm just saying there were too many people to track or keep up with.'"

Anyone who watched that games knows it doesn't matter if the Sooners practiced on the moon, they were no matchup for LSU. Yea Stoops, IF my uncle was a woman she'd be my aunt!

I find it funny that no one has ever actually beat OU in the history of the program. It's the refs, or OU played poorly, or our dog was blue. Now you reach back 16 years. My god, you are not a crredible Tulsa World reporter. You need to go to Sooner Illistrated.

Maybe "Big Game" Bob should change his named to "Big Blame" Bob, since he tends to blame everyone but himself for the Sooners failures. I'm tired of hearing about how its always someone else's fault for OU losing games. USC would have killed OU or LSU in 2003, so it really doesn't matter what happened in the Sugar Bowl. Fact is Bob can't coach against anyone with NFL experience as evidenced by his beatdowns at the hands of Saban, Pete Carroll, Les Miles, etc. Quit blaming the media, fans, officiating, locker rooms, field turf, yard markers, chin straps, pop corn vendors, goal posts, shoulder pads, etc. I could go on and on about the excuses this clown has thrown out there to explain his losses as head coach.

Actually LSU did know 3 plays OU ran and there was noway LSU could have known what was going to happen with out someone having seen them from OU's practice in the super dome.
Now having said that OU still did not stop LSU on offense that night..... BUT LSU DID CHEAT!!1

The odd thing with that statement is that Stoops doesn't have to explain losses very often does he?

Fact is when he does lose he needs to own up to it. And before anyone starts to crown them as national champions lets just relax and realize they haven't played anybody yet and its a stark reality that they'll get left out of the BCS championship game because the Big 12 is a WEAK league again this year. Have fun losing another Fiesta Bowl to a far less talented team because your head coach can't mentally prepare them for the biggest game of the year.

again.....Stoops doesn't have to explain many loses though does he "CRAIG MONROE"
Craig Monroe (5 years ago)
Sure he does. When was the last time he beat Texas? What about Boise and Oregon? TCU? UCLA? USC? Doesn't appear that he can beat any West Coast teams except for maybe his brother's wretched program. Truth hurts when you play in a weak league. It also hurts when you blatantly pay your players and get put on probation as many times as you've won the national title. Keep on believing in that cheating program in Norman, but best believe they'll be beaten at the end of the season by someone from the "weak" conferences like the PAC-10 or the WAC.
