Does OSU Scare the Sooners Yet?
Published: 8/20/2009 4:16 PM

Perhaps you have read about all the big-star football recruits that are signing with Oklahoma State.

The majority of these recruits did not pick OSU over Air Force, Brown, Bowling Green or Idaho State.

Some 3 and 4-stars are starting to pick OSU over OU, Texas and the like.

Chief among the reasons being given: the facilities!

This brings up the question: can you buy success?

Buy it in a legal sense, by investing in one of the best ball parks in the country.

True, there are a lot of really fine football facilities housing dogs, Notre Dame and Michigan among them.

Here's something that would figure right up there with quality.

Quantity.

You need to fill those expensive seats even when a bum comes to town.

"Some 3 and 4-stars are starting to pick OSU over OU, Texas and the like."

Picker, I see you are on the "program on the rise" bandwagon as well.

6 of OSU's 20 commits so far were offered by OU. Take a look of how many OU commits were offered by OSU, probably a much higher %.

0 of OSU's 20 commits were offered by Texas

Dont worry, Barnett from BTW and Shaun Lewis will change their minds before its all said and done..."thats Garbage"

thats hilarious you deleted my last post

p003220...

you really cant stand it can you?

haha!!  what a weak little boy you are!!

If you do your fact checking instead of just guessing or assuming:  6 of OU's commits were offered by OSU, and 7 of OSU's were offered by OU.

so...you might want to make sure your facts are right before you go popping off at the mouth little boy!!

poor sooner...how cute it is when your little short man syndrome pops up to rear its ugly head.

lol!  what a joke!
Marathonman (3 years ago)
You're both insecure.... What are you arguing about - how many signees were recruited by the other???  What difference does it make?
p003220 (3 years ago)
Have that...I'm not a boy..IM A MAN

Marathonman, did you read the article?  Its commenting on how Boone's stadium is attracting big stars over OU and Texas.

Thanks for the kind words Have that, but actually 8 of OU's 21 commits had OSU offers..the other commits are California, KS, and FL commits who generally dont have offers from OSU.

I will take OU's class this year over OSU's any day of the week.  Enjoy the top 10 ranking for the next few weeks.

marathonman...

I could care less...its just that p00 brought it up and showed off his "short man fan" syndrome but in reality had nothing to back it with.

I am happy for my cowboys.  I know we don't get all the players that OU and Texas does, but we make the most of what we got and don't try to make excuses.

Its people like p00 who don't think that OSU has anything better than OU and will never be on the same level.  the fact that we have the nicest facilities in the conference bothers him so much that he will say anything to bash the program.

p00...

you really need to go learn how to count.

and to say that OSU doesn't recruit in Kansas and Florida is asinine.
Arbythree (3 years ago)
These recruits will play faster at OSU.
Have that (3 years ago)
Arbythree...

You're right, playing time and the ability to start playing earlier is certainly a factor when it comes to a recruit’s choice.  Some more than others, but no doubt about it.

It says a lot about a program when they can bring in a full class and redshirt them all...OSU isn't to that point...very few programs are.  OU most certainly has a leg up in that department on OSU and I'm not trying to say anything contra to that.

That being said, every kid out there goes to a program for any number of reasons: location, fan base, championship potential, coaches, facilities, playing time, pro development, TV time, tradition, girls, even the colors of the school.  I played college ball and have known athletes who chose to play at schools for some of the most random reasons, but that’s what the recruiters have to do is find the areas that interest the players the most and lean on em in those fields.

Nice post Have that.Let the season begin!!

According to some OU fans, here is where things stand.

Losing three out of four to Texas? Doesn't matter.

Losing five straight BCS bowl games? Doesn't matter.

Being put on probation because of a job scandal? Doesn't matter.

Losing the eligibility of a 25-year old juco guy who was said to have played multiple years of semi-pro ball? Doesn't matter.

Losing 3 and 4-star recruits to OSU? Doesn't matter.

Exactly what does matter?

Have that (3 years ago)
Pick...

I'll take a stab at answering that...

1) conference championships
2) getting to BCS games, thus the "at least we got there" mantra that waves just as high in norman as the "wait till next year" banner flies above stillwater.
3) sold out home games
4) all time record against OSU(but not texas)
5) past national championships

These seem to be the 5 stable things that OU fans fall back on as their strengths when compared to anything, when anyone brings up anything bad about them, or when anyone talks good about OSU or Texas.

I'll admit, these are 5 solid things that as an OSU fan I cannot claim, compete with, or deny.  But I see your point pick...at what point in time does stuff actually start to matter?

the answer to that is I don't know.

I just want football season to start.

According to some OU fans, here is where things stand.

Losing three out of four to Texas? Doesn't matter. (Does matter)

Losing five straight BCS bowl games? Doesn't matter. (Does Matter)

Being put on probation because of a job scandal? Doesn't matter. (Does Matter)

Losing the eligibility of a 25-year old juco guy who was said to have played multiple years of semi-pro ball? Doesn't matter. (The Tom Wort Injury Matters More)

Losing 3 and 4-star recruits to OSU? Doesn't matter. (We usually get two or so back by signing day a la Broyles, Demontre Hurst, Jason Hannan)

Exactly what does matter? What Matters is that our record in the 90's was 54-46-3 before Bob Arrived and 109-24 with him.  I will take that and all the hardware that comes with championships, heismans, and other awards over an empty trophy case and a 6 game losing streak to your instate rival and no championships.  I am not a Walmart OU fan.  I went to school there and therefore am a fan.  Picker, do you want me to stop being a fan because of some BCS and Texas losses?  I cheer for OU, OSU, and Tulsa when OU is not playing them.

BobSmith007 (3 years ago)
Uh, yeah. What kind of fan would you be if you jumped off the bandwagon after losing three of four to Texas? Or has OU won six of the last nine, I forget which it is.
Gene M (3 years ago)
Mr. Picker, did you notice that the academic ratings are in and Tulsa remains in the elite?  This is what really matters.   I have been reviewing the list since Tuesday and I am still not down to the OSU category.   One of these days they will have an English Department that will make the football team proud?
hootie (3 years ago)
OSU is buying their success just like OU bought their success.  Only difference is that OSU is buying their success legally!

HaveThat -  You left OU having the second dirtiest football program and being placed on probation after or around winning 5 0f 7 MNC off of your list!
hootie (3 years ago)
My bad Have That, I misread your list.
The Picker (3 years ago)
Gene, I never know how accurate that academic business is, as, even at TU, you can get some real projects in for at least a year.

There's probably something to it,though, as you seldom hear much about TU athletes and crime waves, or flunking out; and most seem well spoken.

hootie (3 years ago)
Tatto - as I stated earlier, you left these 2 off of you list

-Second dirtiest football program (amount and time on probation
-Being placed on probation after or around winning 5 of 7 MNC (2 were won without getting caught for cheating)
Gene M (3 years ago)
tattoo, give me a list of those schools so I can compare them against TU on the list.
OUKW (3 years ago)
when will this yearly osu hype machine end?
bshaw72 (3 years ago)
When will the hype end for OSU? There definitely wasn't this much hype for OU back in 2000 when they were at this point. That's because nothing has been proven. Now Picker, everything that you said does matter. Don't like losing the last 3 of 4 to Texas or losing the last 5 BCS games. But I don't see why OSU fans think they have the right to get on OU's back just because OSU finally hit the top 10. I mean, OSU lost last year's Holiday Bowl. They beat Indiana in the Insight Bowl in 2007. When is that impressive? I'm not saying OSU isn't a good team, but they have yet to prove anything. If they can start 7-0 and get that 8th win against Texas. Then I will give them some love. But until then, I will not buy into the OSU hype.
will85 (3 years ago)
For all you ou fans out there it doesnt matter at all how many national championships you have in the past. Its all about the future thats what is funny about Ou fans when osu loses a game we can admit yea we got our butts kicked but then you have OU fans when they lose its everyone elses fault the refs, the other team was cheating, there was to much moisture on that section of the field, stupid excuses like that just shut up with all this arguing crap and look forward to the season. and osu might not beat ou this year they will have a great season though thats a givin, and for you all of us osu fans if OU makes it to the National Championship this year against florida be ready for some more excuses because the gators will beat the breaks off of them again this year.
MexiMike (3 years ago)
As an OSU fan, I don't think that OU has to fear OSU's recruits until OSU starts beating OU with those recruits. It is how you develop the players after they get on campus. Everything before that is just fodder for the media and fans.

With that said, this class is definitely a great sign that the coaches and facilities are worth every cent at OSU. Bill Young is a HUGE reason for this recent influx of amazing defensive recruits giving verbals. I can't wait for the Georgia game! Go Pokes!!
OutPickMyNose (3 years ago)
Tattoo,

Does the biased muck that runs through your brain ever register to you?

Do you realize how silly many of your statements regarding OSU sound? Check your last post and tell me what part I am referring to. I know you can do it.

Just wanted to double check.
