Don't fear the rematch

Even Oklahoma middle linebacker Curtis Lofton admitted it's a grind beating the same team, especially when that team is as strong as Missouri, twice in the same season. That's the mission facing the Sooners Saturday night in San Antonio.

Mr. Lofton will want to read Jimmy Burch's piece in this moring's Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, where it is reminded that the only Big 12 championship rematches played since 2000 have gone for OU.

The Sooners defeated Colorado in the 2002 regular season 27-11, then Buffs coach Gary Barnett said something about a mulligan. He got one all right in the Big 12 championship one month later. This time, OU beat him 29-7.

In 2000, the Sooners nipped Kansas State 27-24 after beating the Wildcats Oct. 14 of that season by the score of 41-31. If karma means anything, OU defeated Missouri by that same count Oct. 13 of this year at Owen Field.

Hey, the Sooners will take all the vibe they can get on their way to San Antonio. For Mizzou is much bettter than the 2000 Wildcats, and on a different plane than the '02 Buffaloes.
