Fans hold up signs before the Knicks-Nets game on Feb. 20. BILL KOSTROUN/AP
Three stories.
One: What's up with Knick sensation Lin?
Can a person be average in college, and average early on in the pros, and then turn up a world-beater one day?
Not quite. Lin is good, not great. The problem is electronic -- too much empty air time to be filled by the airheads.
Second story: Perkins and the Thunder.
Last night the Thunder center scored zero, closer to his average than 10 is.
It is said by everybody that Perkins has value other than scoring, defending and rebounding. This would leave setting picks, fouling and having his picture taken.
The Thunder has no legit inside game. Whose fault is that? Perkins used to score at Boston. We say it is the coach's fault. Run a stinking play for the center once every 45 minutes, okay? You can't win it all without easy baskets inside.
Third story: TU hoops.
Since the beginning of basketball history, there is no recorded event of any team leading by three late, and fouling on defense within five or so seconds to go on the game, and losing. It is impossible for a team to make one free throw, get the rebound and get a bucket, within a few seconds. Up by three, the only way you can lose is for somebody to hit a three and win in overtime.
Last night, TU was up by three on the road, refused to foul late, somebody hit a three and TU loses in overtime.
That stinks.

TU is 0-4 in OT games this year. They can't finish.

Jctblue: Foul and there is no overtime.
The Picker

To repeat, a college team up by three and fouling late can't lose. Period. The only consideration is when to foul late. Inside seven seconds, absolutely. Nobody in recorded history has ever made the first one, missed the second one, snagged the rebound, scored for two, then won in overtime. N-o-b-o-d-y. Hundreds, thousands, maybe millions, have trailed by three late and have made threes and have won in overtime. There can be no justifying the decision not to foul late, up by three.

Fourth story: Just figured out who The Picker is. Gary Busey.

Fumby, I'm guessing not. And that's the point.
When you're up three, put the other team on the free throw line so that they don't have the opportunity to score more than two points.
The only problem with that strategy is that you can't use it with too much time on the clock. If there are seven seconds left when the player is intentionally fouled, he can cut the lead to one point with plenty of time for his team to then foul the opposing team and stop the clock.
If that guy then misses one of his two free throws, five seconds is plenty of time for the opposing team to dribble the length of the court and score for a tie or a possible win.

If you don't watch the game then how can you report on the game ????
You say Lin is nothing but hype, scoring 38 against the Lakers & winning is hype???? Hitting a game winning shot in the NBA with less than second to play is hype???? Leading your TEAM without TWO 20 million dollar starters to 7 straight wins is hype???? Reviving a stagnant team & fans to an electrifying level is hype ????
If you don't watch & see it then HOW CAN you know about it ???? What was the game like ? "I only watch the last 5 minutes that's all I need to know & what I know from what I seen is all encompassing & everyone should believe in what I say...."
You may know football but the hackish hickish attitude about professional basketball should be broadened or left where you found it, go ahead, stick your head back up there & see some more....

The 4 Thunder big men avg a 20/20 every night...along with the Ibaka leading the lg in blocks...taking care of the ball is the much bigger problem.
The Picker

Zero from savior Perkins is the only problem.
