Durant's First Bad Step?
Published: 9/14/2012 3:47 PM

According to numerous reports from the national press, OKC superstar Kevin Durant has become good buddies with mega-star LeBron James.

Becoming friends with a chief opponent? The one who just beat you out of a title?

That's an absurd thing to do.

The great players have never been friends with number one foes.

You don't have to hate somebody to compete intensely against his or her team. But disliking an opponent to a high degree is about where you want to be. Do you think any of the best Celtics or Lakers were buddy-buddy with the ones they wanted to stomp into the woodwork?

You can't run over good friends.

There was a Broadway play about two particular Celtics and Lakers being buddy-buddy while also rivals. I guess maybe because they were lesser known players? That must be it. The play was "Magic/Bird." I doubt many people had heard of those two guys.

You were best to cite the Pistons and Bulls. No way Jordan was buddy-buddy with Isiah.

Bird-Magic were not best buds while competing. It was not until later that they became friends. Larry Bird said (and I am paraphasing) that he disliked Magic immensely, he just couldn't be friends with a competitor, it was not in his nature.

Maybe Kevin is just trying to get an inside track on a pair of LeBron's new sneakers.

Didn't Magic kiss Isaiah Thomas before a couple dog fights?

Good grief Pick. It's sports. Not an armed conflict.
