ESPN Must Be Stopped
Published: 7/20/2009 4:12 PM

After what transpired over the weekend at the Open in Scotland, it's time for this question: How bad can ESPN get?

ESPN, ABC, same thing, in this case.

First with ESPN came the foolish anchors trying to make a name with stupid catch-phrases.

Next, the hack experts, the failed coaches, the lippy former players, the know-it-alls who couldn't pick the winner of the replays.

Now, this. Now, incompetence.

During the amazing Open, which was one of the greatest sporting events ever staged (Tiger who?) the viewer found him or herself wondering: Who is that tall guy in the bright green hat, anyway?

Oh, yeah, him. HE WAS ONLY THE OPEN WINNER, THAT'S WHO!

ESPN, the self-proclaimed leader in sports programming, but more to the point, a monopoly, LOST THE MAN WHO WON ONE OF THE GREATEST SPORTING EVENTS IN HISTORY!

As the lead announcer Azinger said when winner Cink reached the first playoff hole, we haven't seen much of this person today, have we.

ESPN has become all talk, hot air mostly.

And look what's on the rise: college football season, with Lou Sufferin Succotash Holtz, Mark Squeaky May, Chris Wishy Washy Fowler, and the coronation of Tim Tebow Or Not To Be (in the pros).....Corso had heath issues and gets a pass.

One final Open note, the Choker's Hall of Fame has a new member, England's own Lee Driftwood, who bogied three of the last four and joins Sergio and Davis III and Phil and Ernie and Furyk as a bunch of guys who would have done even less, if such a thing is imaginable, back in Jack's day.

The inserted ESPN logo graphics when Tom was at #18 was way too much. ESPN thought they had history going on and put their logo on screen so every other media outlet would have to advertise them... It was really disgusting given the moment.

while I agree with you that ESPN has become so overly full of itself that it has completely lost the point to what they are doing...

The Open this weekend was far far FAR from one of the greatest sporting events in history, or even recent history, unless your memory only goes back to last Thursday.

Interesting? yes. Fun to watch? sure. Greatest Sporting event in history? not even in the top 300 or so I could rattle off.

ESPN sucks and should be banished from the airwaves for their nationwide(possibly worldwide) expansion of sports interest....

Without them, sports icons would still be of mythical nature in our minds and not the normal human beings that we can see & judge with our own eyes....

I'd much rather have someone tell me something than actually witness it myself....
