Texas Tech Week doesn't do it for me. Not this year. And since I'm headed to Kansas City for Big 12 media day, let's interrupt football season – just for a moment – and catch up on what's being written about Oklahoma basketball.
Actually, it's a good news/bad news presentation courtesy of ESPN.com. Veteran writer Andy Katz comes with the good, writing: "Lon Kruger is an undervalued coach who has won wherever he has coached in college. There is apathy in the hoops fan base, but this program will trend upward under Kruger."
If the glass is half-full to Katz, the same can't be said for Worldwide Leader colleague Eamonn Brennan.
"If (Billy) Gillispie ever gets discouraged, all he has to do is remind himself he's not Lon Kruger," Brennan wrote. "Kruger will feel Gillispie's pain and then some. Not only is the veteran coach inheriting a cratered roster – a far cry from the high-flying days of Blake Griffin (and considerably less-high-flying days of his brother, Taylor) – he's doing so as the NCAA prepares its findings into assistant coach Oronde Taliaferro's alleged arrangement of a loan for former one-year bust Tiny Gallon.
"Those findings remain uncertain, but whatever happens, Sooners hoops will be hamstrung for years to come."
