Eddie Sutton: OSU dealt more than fair share of tragedy

Eddie Sutton, who coached the Oklahoma State men’s basketball team when the lives of 10 men were lost in a team plane crash, was jarred when he heard the news that OSU women's basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna had died in a plane crash.

“It’s a tragedy,” Sutton said in a telephone interview. “Kurt was really a nice person and a good basketball coach. It brings back a lot of unpleasant memories from 10 months and 10 years ago. I think about that (2001 plane crash) every day, but when something like this comes along, you really think about it.”

Sutton said OSU is being dealt more than its share of tragedy.

“I hope nobody else ever has to go through it,” he said.
