Ex-OU Assistant Coaches Flop Big Time

OU defensive coordinator Brent Venables congratulates Tom Wort against Cincinnati. MIKE SIMONS/Tulsa World
Mike Stoops is on his last tantrum at Arizona. Wilson at Indiana lost to Ball State. Chuck Third and Long is incomplete. The big guy at Kansas got fired. But KU probably wishes it had him back. Leach and the wild man at Nebraska were only passing through and were not in Norman long enough to be considered inside family.
Such a track record from the assistants probably helps to explain why Venables is still at OU.
That and the Bust Brothers in the current secondary.

Picker, You continue to be the voice of reason for sooner media, please don't think a semi-literate jerk like bgb speaks for all of us. Bgb, what in particular in this post do you dispute? It's all facts as far as former coaches, and as to current staff - doesn't it frustrate you to see OU give up so many big passing plays? In fact, more than anyone else in the nation in 2 of the last 7 years (that's the stats, jack).

bgb - truth hurts, huh!?!?

Wow, bgb.
Anger issues?

doggone it bgb, why are you so po'd? BTW, you may be the only one on the planet who doesn't know who writes the column. And your responses show that actually you do care what someone you don't even know thinks about you - you gonna be ok?

bgb: Everyone knows the Picker is Jay Cronley, it's called a 'byline' Harvard! And yes, the Pick just confirmed his own odd questions from the past few years about Venables. Like Ive been saying Pick, maybe Brent V likes making upwards of $400k to be at a pretty cool place to coach football and raise his family without all the BS that comes with being the head man. $400k in Norman, OK is a pretty sweet living.

He still sells more papers than anyone on the staff.

His writing style is "built" to provoke the exact kind of reactions above..... and it works.

I remember when the Tulsa World bought out a whole newspaper, The Tulsa Tribune, just so they could have the picker on their staff. I've always looked forward to his colummns.

Uh I thought the Pick got the job because of his talented wife.

Out Pick The Picker
The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
