As a result of Saturday's 45-35 home loss to Houston, Oklahoma State experienced its worst single-week drop in the national rankings.
In the Associated Press Top 25 released on Sunday, the Cowboys fell from No. 5 to No. 16. For an OSU team that remained in the poll after a pronounced drop, the 11-spot fall is a school record.
In 1973, in what then was the Top 20, the Cowboys sank at least 10 places (from 11th to unranked) following a home loss to Texas Tech. In 1985, OSU sank 10 spots (from seventh to 17th) after a loss to Oklahoma in the Ice Bowl at Stillwater.
On four occasions, Oklahoma State dropped seven places in the Top 25. It happened in 1985 (from fifth to 12th after a loss to Nebraska), in 1987 (from 12th to 19th after a loss to Nebraska), in 1997 (from 12th to 19th after a loss to Missouri) and in 2003 (from 14th to 21st after a Bedlam loss in Norman).
Houston is No. 21 in the AP poll. The Cougars make their first appearance in the Top 25 since September 1991.
