Eyes on the storm

While the focus for the Oklahoma State football team is on Saturday afternoon's home game (thanks to all of this wet weather) with Missouri State, don't be surprised if the focus of some OSU players is back home.
Hurricane Ike is projected to hit along the south Texas coastline with the greater Houston area being on the "bad side" of the storm. OSU has 16 players who call the Houston area home. Three years ago, there was a lot of trepidation among the Houston-area contingent when Hurricane Rita was projected to take dead aim on Galveston, only to take a right-hand turn and veer towards Beaumont. That storm came only weeks after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans.
The OSU players from the Houston area are a tight bunch to begin with. Some were high school teammates (Andre Sexton and Ricky Price at Cy Falls; Jeray Chatham, DeMarcus Conner and Broderick Brown at Spring Westfield) while many of the others competed against each other or knew of each other in high school.
"It gives you a sense of comfort knowing there are other guys from the Houston area," said senior safety Quinton Moore, who is from the south Houston suburb of Pearland.
It is a given these guys will be there for each other on the field Saturday. Off the field, that fact is a certainty as well.
