Facts Gone Wild

Here's the real top ten.

1. Alabama.
2. Nebraska.
3. TCU.
4. Ohio State.
5. Texas.
6. OU.
7. South Carolina.
8. Boise State.
9. Oregon.
10. Iowa.

Nebraska is better than back, it is forwardly placed, it is about where OU was under Stoops, back in the day. NFL defenders, excellent tailback, rocket quarterback.

Why isn't OSU ranked? Here's why. How many top 50 teams would be undefeated with OSU's schedule? Fifty.

In other stuff:

Arizona's Mike Stoops has become a caricature of himself with his constant sideline hysterics. One wonders how long his health can hold up under such duress.

ESPN's Game Day has gone nuts, as this weekend it is going to Boise State for its dumb game with a barely average Oregon State team. TCU already mopped the turf with Oregon State. Boise Blue instead of Alabama at Arkansas. Really foolish.

Pretty boy Tom Brady seems more concerned with his fashion look than his passing game. He's done. New England is done.

The St. Louis Ram coaching staff stinks, not letting Bradford throw more. He was something like 9-9 on his first drive. Then they went to sleep.

New Tech coach Tommy Tupperware has already instilled his Boring Ball in Lubbock. Tech is finished.

Texas at Nebraska Oct. 16 is the game of the decade. Game Day will probably be at Iowa. The Big 12 could get messy. Say Texas beats OU, Nebraska beats Texas, Texas wins the rematch in the conference title game.

Should TU drop football? No. It simply needs to get lucky to compete against good teams, lucky as it did with the offensive coordinator, now at Auburn, or lucky with a quarterback.

OU's quarterback is wildly inconsistent.

The NFL's best goes this way.

1. Steelers.
2. Green Bay.
3. Houston.
4. Indy.
5. New Orleans.

How many top 50 teams would be 2-0 with Boise State's schedule? James Madison is and they aren't even D1 (FBS).

Shame on you for ranking them in the top ten.
sportsfan918 (2 years ago)

Before Washington State, we heard that WSU was a much better team this year.

Before Troy we heard that Troy is always a very dangerous team.

Before Tulsa we heard that TU's offense is one of the best in the country.

And the only thing that matters... 3-0.

dcood (2 years ago)
Hey Pick the problem with TU is NOT the offense. One has to wonder how many times the opposition can score a min of 50 and have over 600 yards and the dudes keep their jobs... I think the very average Pokes had 725 yards!
The Picker (2 years ago)
Washington State and TU are two of the worst defensive teams in the history of sports. OSU was fortunate to defeat Troy in Stillwater. The knowing fan appreciates chump schedules and reasonable performances for what they are. Homer hype is not required, as matters like Texas, OU and Nebraska will be settled on the field. PS: The Aggies have no defense whatsoever, either. Enjoy.

Had Texas played Utah State to within a TD and Air Force within 3, you'd have them ranked outside the Top 10 and would be saying they are in trouble. Yet, the team who did play said teams to those numbers is ranked 6th. Same team who you say has an inconsistent QB. Hmmmmm.

Mr. Picker: could you please explain how Iowa loses to an average Arizona team and ranks in your top 10?
Big John 2009 (2 years ago)
I agree with sportsfan918. Why is it the when OSU beats a team, the opponent is not as good as we thought. But when OU squeeks out a win at home, the opponent is "pesky". I dont get it. I think the Cowboy offense is improved with a healthy runner and a better passer and the multiple recievers, not just the Dez show. The defense, still under-rated. 3 - 0 I like it.
The Picker (2 years ago)
Utah State and Air Force are both better than coach Tupperware's softies.

Iowa lost AT Arizona, had a punt blocked and a pass picked and was behind 14-0 ten seconds in, and still had a chance to win. Plus, the zebras have to give Mike Stoops some calls to keep his head from exploding.

Trying to figure this "Picker" thing out. Is this the Tulsa World's way of espousing blatantly ignorant opinions without having to assign a journalist to it? I'm not sure I've ever seen the author of a story respond so aggressively to comments on the board.

Pick .... and Nebraska's schedule is any better than OSUs??? Give me a break!! Yu have to call a spade a spade!
Pokefan04 (2 years ago)
I see how you are Picker. While I'm not saying OSU will win the South, or even be in competition, I am saying it's a little disgusting that EVERYONE is downplaying the fact that OSU went through the first three games and took care of business. But the media feel like they need to add a "but" to every game. Here's how the rest of the season would play out IF they won each game.

A&M - Yeah, but A&M almost lost to FIU at home.
ULL - Yeah, but it's ULL.
TTU - Yeah, but they're still learning the new coach.
NEB - Yeah, but the game was in Stillwater. Let's see how they do on the road against real competition.
KSU - Yeah, but it was KSU, and they barely beat ISU at home.
BAY - Yeah, but it's Baylor.
UT - Yeah, but Texas looked like crap against Rice, and they have a new offense.
KU - Yeah, but KU lost at home against a Div II team
OU - Yeah, but OU barely beat Utah State at home.

Again, in no way am I saying that I think OSU will win all these games. And I'm not saying they deserve to be ranked any higher than they are. What I am saying is that excuses can be made for most teams. OSU played the schedule they had and came away unscathed. They took care of business, which is more than you can say about Va Tech, Iowa, Houston, Oregon St and pretty much any team from the ACC.

Hootie, good point, Nebraska's schedule has been nothing. But: It did beat Arizona 100-0 in a bowl, it intercepted five or ten OU passes, and it appears to be better than last year with the new jet qb.
LaffALot (2 years ago)
I agree w/ your Top 10, except I might replace Iowa w/ Wisconsin & S. Carolina w/ Florida(‘ol man Spurless has yet to show he can beat his former Gator baits) & Utah has got the schedule to beat TCU @ home & run the table thru the MWC. Only other ‘tuff one for them might be @ Air Force in late Oct.

Don’t be surprised to see an October “meltdown” of the over hyped Nebraska Corn Traitors. (@ K St Wildcat surprise? They’ll be undefeated going into that game & you know coach Synder will have them ready for that one. Texas @ home whose “D” is probably better then them Cornsacks, @ O “make a Statement” U, Weedon & Blackman will severely test a Nebraska’a secondary that has played nobody & they haven’t met a runner like Hunter either, Then major rival Mizzu @ home. Bo Fettuccine might be all noodled up @ the end of that month) Just like OSU, there are 50 schools that would be undefeated w/ Nebraska’s schedule right now

Tech is done. Them, A&M & Baylor will be the bottom feeders of the Big 12 South.

As Murray goes, so does OU.
Stop OU’s run game then its up to waffle Landry.

One thing that might also help TU, quit over scheduling itself. Next year they play OSU, @ OU & @ Boise St? Yea, that’ll help “resurrect” the program. Will they ever have a decent defense or find a running back?
Ignatz (2 years ago)
Picker, regarding TU, it wasn't just a good offensive co-ordinator and the great Paul Smith that moved TU's program along, Adams was a darn good running back and Kragthorpe had recruited two fine JC linemen. TU had a good placekicker and great receivers. We had arguably the finest tight end in the country before he went to the NFL. We may not see such a combo again in my lifetime (I'm almost 63).
hootie (2 years ago)
Picker - the AZ game was last year with a lot of different players(i.e. Suh). Like I have always said. Plos should not come out until mid- or end of October. Until then most everything is smoke and mirrors. Unfortualy, the polls come out in August and already have an effect on who plays in the BCS game based upon "last year".
The Picker (2 years ago)
Hootie, so you're saying you want OSU and Texas over Nebraska?
MexiMike (2 years ago)
Nebraska at #2 is an absolute joke. Didn't you also say Nebraska was back last year a couple of days before they lost to Iowa State...in Lincoln?

And what Nebraska QB are you talking about? When I look in their backfield all I see is another running back. With the weak schedule he has played so far, how many passing TDs does he have? I'll save the suspense for you--1. That's it.

He's ran the ball well against awful opponents yet you give him credit and take away credit from OSU's playmakers for doing the same thing.

What does the win over Arizona in last year's bowl game have to do with this year? They lost a certain DT since then (maybe you've heard of him) along with 5 of their top 10 tacklers. But hey, don't let the facts get in the way.

Still holding firm on that 6-6 prediction for OSU, Pick?
The Picker (2 years ago)
Were OSU fans this feisty before clubbing mighty TU?
pokesn09 (2 years ago)
Yeah, I'll say it Pick.....Like i've said on other Posts-

OSU downs the Highly Overrated Nebraska.!!! :)

I just love the craziness of football season....
CapitalismNotSocialism (2 years ago)
Every year TU has some new hurdle to face like new changes in leadership or players. They are the team that every decent team wants to play for homecoming. Why? Because they want to be too much. You can see non disciplined athletes. For example look at Saban's style at Alabama. Every team member interviewed on tv always puts the team first. When asked about a game two weeks down the road its always about the one that weekend. When TU can focus on the short term games then they can look at long term achievements.

sorry about the triple post...
