Fairest Meadows

It's time for an upgrade.

The Fair Meadows sports bar and horse race simulcast facility is no longer a joint. Through major improvements in structure and personnel and attitude, it has become an attraction.

For our time and money, Fair Meadows is one of the top sports bars in town, maybe even the best.

The smoking section that used to account for half the facility has been trashed and turned into a gigantic-screen all-sports theater. There's none of that 50-inch flat screen junk here, there are mini-jumbo screens all around. Smokers occupy an enclosed area.

All college and pro football games will be televised this fall.

A fantasy football contest with a first prize of one grand begins around the first of September.

Parking is free.

Invidiual TV's and carels are available free of charge for viewing horse races at most American tracks.

The beer is cold, the food has color. Lousy pari-mutuel clerks have been run off; only the best remain.

A private party room is available upstairs.

The facility is on fairgrounds Tulsa county property and has people from the sheriff's office for security.

At what other sports bar might you get lucky and break even on your tab for the night?

Ummm...ok.

Mr. Picker, well said. Why not meet out there on Friday to win some $$$$$$ on Del Mar. I'm doing well on the sprints. Can't figure out the distance stuff.

Do you happen to be a partial owner of this bar, Pick?

Are they treating you to free rounds of beer for this free pub?

When I die, do I wake up in the heaven that is the Fair Meadows Sports Bar?

Good positive article, get well soon Picker.

I agree 100%. Its fun, beer is pretty cheap, and lots of sports always on. Where are all the people moaning about the drillers moving? The ponies are just as much fun as baseball. I'm a huge baseball fan but at least when the races go off you are guaranteed some action every 20 minutes

Buster, my man, you're too funny.

Gene, I couldn't pick the replay at Del Mar, hardest place on earth; but I'll come buy and listen to you!

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
