Fans to Politicians: Do Something Fair for a Change!
Published: 7/2/2009 4:37 PM

College basketball is a cesspool of phoniness.

It is fast becoming the worst sport on the books, thanks to the rule that forces guys who can't spel to go to college for a year and luxuriate, frequently at the taxpayer's expense.

College basketball has made comedy of the phrase student athlete -- dopey athlete is more like it.

The BCS is as bad. By definition, it keeps certain teams from competing for a national championship "just because," a clear cut anti-trust violation.

This is America! You can't stop somebody from making a living! You can't discriminate against a team because of the color of its field, or the color of its money!

Come on, politicians, just ask your mistresses and the like, college sports are not fair!

Mr. Picker, I hope you will submit this issue to our representative, John Sullivan, as soon as he gets out of the drunk tank.

It actually looks like the Senate could end this BCS nightmare. The BCS is the definition of the Sherman anti-trust law. Plus the old Senator who is the maddest is from Utah.

The BCS does need to be changed but please spare me with the whole notion that it "keeps certain teams from competing for a national championship."

The BCS didn't keep Utah out of the national championship, THE VOTERS DID. Obviously, coaches and pollsters alike felt that Utah did not have the SOS to earn a spot in the championship game.

I realize that they can't choose Big 12 or SEC conference opponents (and I doubt they would want to because they would then lose at least 3 games a year and have nothing to gripe about), but they certainly can do something about their OOC schedule.

I'd rather have somebody in the national championship game with one loss that had to go through the Big 12 or SEC to get there than an undefeated mid-major team that played the likes of Wyoming, Colorado State, San Diego State, etc.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
