Finch gets vote of confidence as Murray's heir

I'm trying to caution Oklahoma fans that the Sooners are going to miss DeMarco Murray more than they'd like to admit. This won't help:

Rivals college football writer Olin Buchanan has named Roy Finch "next season's breakout offensive player" in the Big 12 Conference.

"The diminutive true freshman demonstrated some flashy moves and rushed for 398 yards in a backup role to DeMarco Murray," Buchanan wrote. "Murray has moved on, so the loaded Sooners need someone to step in and replace his production at running back. Finch should be the guy."

Prediction: Finch will be the lead guy. But he'll get plenty of help.

Trey Millard didn't do much in Josh Heupel's first game as OU play-caller at the Fiesta Bowl. Bet that changes come September.

Brennan Clay, overshadowed by his good friend/classmate Finch last season, will play a more prominent role.

Jonathan Miller, coming off a redshirt year and a knee injury, will get a shot.

And don't sleep on Brandon Williams. The prep All-American from Brookshire, Texas, is already attending classes. That puts him in spring ball in just over a month, which gives him a huge head start on his freshman season.

Remember the impression early enrollee Kenny Stills made last spring when the Sooners were looking to add wide receiver depth? Williams could repeat that feat in the OU backfield.

Finch needs to live in the Weight Room during the off season. He is quick, but he isn't durable...he needs to work on that if he is going to carry the ball 20 to 25 times per game.

IMO, Randle at OSU will have a better year. As Domo stated, Finch has been prone to injuries. Ranlde is also a little better at catching passes.

I appreciate the commitment that Murray had for the program. But I do not think he will be missed as much as Emig would like you to believe. He was easily tackled and seldom ran with any intensity and authority. He was never the same after the hamsting and knee injury. He can thank Stoops for that. Havng your tailback return kickoffs is absurd! His lack of vision on the field, often led to short or no gains. I honestly think Finch, barring injury, will be a much more dependable and effective back.
BOOMER...

Different year, different names, same ol' results. The Sooners will reload at running back once again. They are a passing team, so 60-80 yards a game will be suffice. What's that I see? Another Big 12 Championship. Just for you, mh: SOONER!

Finch reminds me of the Little Engine that could. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Just curious MH, what credentials do you have that we would want to even listen to your perspective? You think you know football? haven't seen your name as an assistant?

Thanking Stoops for an injury? Having your RB return kick-offs is not absurd....if he is the best fit for that position. An injury can happen anywhere, but you sure can't blame the coaching staff. His kneecap injury came against Texas Tech....on an onside kick recovery team....where you put your hands team and athletes.
IDIOT!

I'm not knocking DeMarco AT ALL, but those of you calling Finchy accident prone must be forgetting about DM's first 3 years at OU.

DeMarco Murray broke every record in the book.....of course he'll be missed.
Sooners have to reload and Finch will be a bullet in that offensive gun, but I imagine he'll need a running mate or two. Lots of talent in the running back squad and I think we'll see some huge numbers from Brennan Clay.

Sooner Transplant: Just so you know, this is a place for people to express their opinions. Also, for your info., I really do not give a rat's a#@, whether you care to listen to my perspective or not! My credientials, if you must know, include coaching experience as well as playing college football.
If it is not absurd to have your starting tailback returning kickoffs, then it is just plain stupid! Why doesn't Cam Newton return kicks. He is clearly the best running back at Auburn. You call yourself "soonertransplant", I think you need a "brain" transplant. Until you can make an intelligent argument, please just shut-up, you are cooming off as stupid!

Roy Finch is one type of back - Brandon Williams is another. Either could be very good in 2011. Success will be how each runner (lets put some others in there and not just those two) responds to the blocks and how the line blocks for them. Translation: don't just look at the runner, but how the team works together.
