Joe Jon doesn't like Texas. But the Aggies are OK.Stephen Pingry/Tulsa World
Oklahoma tight end Joe Jon Finley, a junior from Arlington, Texas, shared some thoughts about this week's opponent, Texas A&M, and the Aggies' unusual traditions and high-profile fans. He also talked about his admiration for The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and Jim Carrey, a conversation that can only be found on the Sooners Extra page in Thursday's Tulsa World.
Q: You've said you didn't like Texas as a kid. As a Texan, does that mean you have to like A&M by default?
A: I liked A&M better than Texas, but I wasn't really a fan of either one of 'em. I didn't really get into being a fan of college football until my brother went to college. I was always into my dad's high school games, you know, a Cuero Gobbler fan more than anything. When my brother went, I was a Nebraska fan. I just always disliked Texas more than anybody. I don't know why. I liked the Aggies. I liked A&M. I liked their whole school. I've got a bunch of friends that go to college down there and love it, their Corps and all the yells they do and stuff.
Q: Ever been to a Yell Practice?
A: No, never. Never been to a game where I was cheering for them, really.
Q: Their most famous fan is George Bush, the first one. With a major election coming up, any insights on politics?
A: No. I like President Bush, though. Both President Bushes.
Q: Last time Oklahoma played in College Station, 2004, coach Stoops went up and introduced himself to former President Bush. Would you do that?
A: No doubt about it. I would. You don't get to meet the president of the United States very often. That's a big deal right there.
