First Round Tournament Notes

Hey, Indiana, coach Sampson is some fun, huh: 13 points in the first half, 49 total.

His offense is long-distance, like his phone action.

This could be the Buzz Peterson Worse Hire of the Decade.

Speaking of the worst, how about that Xavier.

It created a training film of how to do everything wrong in losing to Ohio State.

First, leading by three, it pulled all its players off the free throw line as its player missed a toss. Pulling players off the free throw line is lower than high school, it's pee wee league stuff. Why concede a rebound?

After conceding the rebound, next, with nobody on the free throw line, it conceded the ball reaching half court in about half a second.

Finally, Xavier didn't foul before Ohio State took the last three-point shot, which is little more than a free throw, anyway

If you were the Xavier coach, or any coach, what would you do, attempt a defensive strategy that works 100 percent of the time, or a defensive strategy that works absout half the time?

If, leading by three, you foul before somebody can try a simple three-pointer on its last shot, you always win.

ALWAYS!

If you let somebody try the three, they make it about 40 percent of the time.

How dumb can you get.

So if you ALWAYS win by fouling before the three, is that to say that there is a ZERO percent chance of an offensive rebound and put back off of a missed 2nd free throw?

Sounds to me like there is no reason to keep your players at the free throw line afterall !!

I think we're mixing strategy here.

Always foul leading by 3 with the last shot coming up.

Never take players off the defensive free throw line.

Simple.
