Football going to the birds

It used to be that you needed a program (or a roster) to keep up with the comings and goings in football.
Now you need an ornithologist.
The NFL is down to its Final Four and three of the surviving teams have a wing, if not a prayer: Cardinals. Ravens. Eagles.
Maybe oddsmakers should place a call to an aviary to determine which is the superior bird of prey.
One more bird-related story, courtesy of University of Tulsa beat writer Eric Bailey.
Bailey was in Mobile, Ala., for the GMAC Bowl, which pitted Tulsa against Ball State.
Ball State's mascot is the Cardinals. Every schools' fans have some sort of chant that is supposed to be intimidating when they meet and greet fans of the opposing school.
We Are Penn State.
Boomer Sooner.
Tiger Bait.
Bailey said Ball State's fans used their fingers to imitate bird beaks (sort of like hook 'em horns) and they chanted in unison "chirp, chirp, chirp."
This is going to intimidate just one person: Tippi Hedren. Google her.

Tulsa World sports writer Jimmie Tramel is a former class president at Locust Grove High School. He graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern State University with a journalism degree and, while attending college, was sports editor of the Pryor Daily Times. He joined the Tulsa World on Oct. 17, 1989, the same day an earthquake struck the World Series. He is the OSU basketball beat writer and a columnist and feature writer during football season. In 2007, he wrote a book about Oklahoma State football with former Cowboy coach Pat Jones.
