STILLWATER – Mike Gundy still regards former teammate Hart Lee Dykes as the gold standard – the best wide receiver in Oklahoma State history.
In 1985-88, Dykes totaled 203 catches for 3,171 yards and 29 touchdowns. He was the biggest reason why Gundy completed his OSU career as the leading passer in Big Eight history.
In 2000-09, OSU had four elite wide receivers. Rashaun Woods, D’Juan Woods, Adarius Bowman and Dez Bryant had combined totals of 730 catches for 11,777 yards and 111 touchdowns. Gundy coached them all. He was the offensive coordinator when Rashaun Woods became OSU’s career leader in receptions, receiving yards and TD catches. Gundy was head coach when D’Juan Woods, Bowman and Bryant were OSU’s primary pass-catchers.
During his Monday news conference, Gundy was asked about the Woods-Woods-Bowman-Bryant group. If Gundy could have only one of those guys for one big game, who would he choose?
“One game? If it’s just one game, and if he was focused and jacked up and ready to play, it would be hard not to take Dez,” Gundy replied. “But now if you were doing it for a season, Rashaun Woods would be reliable. He could do it for the duration.
“Sometimes, Dez had a problem staying focused all year. But for one game, if he was in shape and focused and ready to go, it would be hard to beat Dez.”
