Updates on a couple former Oklahoma five-stars, Brandon Williams and Justin McCay.
Williams is the running back who OU fans figured would help the next three years, after he rushed for 219 yards in spot duty as a 2011 freshman. What they didn't figure was how homesick he was.
Williams transferred to Texas A&M to be within an hour of his hometown of Brookshire, and his 2-year-old daughter.
"Oklahoma was eight hours away and I had never been out of Texas," he told AggieYell.com. "I thought it wouldn't be too bad, but I found out how bad it was... I talked to (his daughter) on the phone but she got older and older. Every day it hurt me. I was like, 'I have got to make this right.'"
Goodbye, Norman. Hello, College Station.
"It's all good now," said Williams, who must sit out the 2012 season. "I have been spending a lot of time with her."
McCay, a wide receiver who redshirted in 2010 and barely played in three games last fall, is also closer to home. The former Kansas City high school star transferred to KU, where he hopes to receive an NCAA waiver which will allow him to play next season.
It could happen due to the circumstances of his transfer – the Topeka Capital-Journal reported McCay lost his father before coming to OU, and moved to KU to take care of his family.
A couple other tidbits from Jayson Jenks' article: McCay fell behind his fellow wide receivers because he failed to grasp OU's offense, and also sustained a knee injury while in Norman.
"You can see there's some relief in him, a little chip on his shoulder," said Justin Hoover, an old high school coach of McCay's. "I just think he's ready to turn the page."
