Four months from kickoff, OU-Idaho State already a joke

When do you know you have scheduled an absolute lemon of a football game? When a Web site administered by your own fans blasts away.

The Crimson And Cream Machine recently ranked the "Big 12's most embarrassing non-conference games of 2009." No. 1 – Oklahoma vs. Idaho State on Sept. 12.

From the site: "The Bengals (won) just one game last season and the defending Big 12 champs should be embarrassed to be hosting them."

Actually, the Big 12 champs should be embarrassed if they charge anyone for watching the second half of that game. But scheduling it? Nah. The same season the Sooners are also playing Miami, BYU and Tulsa, they should be excused for devouring a cupcake.

Idaho State? That's not a cupcake, that's a cupcake wrapper.

Even the writers who cover the Div. I-AA Bengals are piling on. Check out the comic stylings of Kellis Robinett of the Idaho State Journal:

"Ooooooooooklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain. And the Bengals' meat can sure smell sweet…

"Unless the BCS can step in and sponsor the matchup as a bowl game, the Bengals will be in for the beating of a lifetime. Seriously, that's the only way I can envision Idaho State losing by less than 40 points…

"In most of their games (last year), the Sooners scored more than 60 points. That would be a good place to start the over/under for next season's game with the Bengals. A better prop bet, though, would be can OU score more times than its band plays 'Boomer Sooner?

"I say no. The OU marching band plays that song 85 times per game."

Ok, the first one is kind of a low blow, but still pretty funny.

The second one, though, is just pure genius! Somebody give this guy a job writing for SNL.

In most years OU plays a respectable out of conference schedule when compared to most other conference members and many other BSC teams.

I don’t believe that it would be asking for to much work for a writer to have interview OU’s athletic director about the modern day problems of scheduling.

An interview would have given us better coverage and provided readers with more knowledge about the scheduling problems.

The way this is written it almost makes it sound like OU wants to play and entire out of conference schedule of teams like Idaho St when informed people know that isn’t the case.
