Free Pass For OU Coaches?

Remember the Bomar thing?

It was in all the papers.

He was paid by a car dealership for doing nothing. The story was broken on the internet. Another OU player was in on the scam as well.

Now we're just thinking. We're just wondering. We don't know anything except what we read on the legal pages. Tight as security has become around football practices, you'd think something more than a game was at stake. The point is, it's hard to find out anything except when the lawsuits start flying.

But: After the Bomar thing, wouldn't you think that every single recruit would have every football playing second checked inside out and upside down and 14 ways from next Thursday? Wouldn't you think that after a school was put on probation, no possible question would remain in the slightest doubt, particularly the eligibility of a linebacker who is, frankly, old?

Not that this should have a thing in the world to do with more coach of the year honors.

Huh?

I, too, only know what I read in the Tulsa fishwrap. So I probably know all the wrong things. But didn't the NCAA check him five ways from last Thursday and clear him to play? The Sooners actually did what you are telling them to do...discovering the NCAA's error.

Don't pull a muscle stretching on this one, Pick.

It sounds like the NCAA cleared him to play based on the info OU provided.

Then OU found MORE info. Then no go.

The simple question remains: After a scandal and probation, shouldn't everything be checked inside out? Particularly on a player who is like 45 years of age? Probation then ineligible important player? No big deal? Par for the course.

I guess I'm still lost on this one. Isn't that how it was discovered...OU doing its due diligence? I'll forfeit and give you this one.

Pick...

How dare you even think that there is something crooked about the coaches at OU?  OU is the most upstanding program in the NCAA.  Their record is spotless and anytime there has been any problem it was because of the kid and not the coaches or school.  Only the kids who were caught are to blame...no one else has broken any rules, only the kids that were caught broke any rules.

There has never been a time when a coach or administrative official with OU has broken any laws or rules EVER.

By the way...I was in a 3 way with Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel last night too.

Florida State turned em in, not uo

It's a good thing Florida State said something about the guy having played one to three years of semi-pro ball, or he could have played without being eligible this season!

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
