Fumigate Dallas; BCS Poll Shines
Published:
10/18/2010 12:22 PM
Last Modified:
10/18/2010 12:22 PM
Why is everybody so surprised that Dallas is barely average?
How many times does a meddling owner have to hire the wrong people before it's obvious he is the main problem? The meddling owner at the Dallas basketball team, never won a game. The meddling owner at the Redskins, never won a game. Jerry Jones is not the football coach that he thinks he is.
How many times does Tony Turnover have to give the other team six easy points before it's obvious he should have no lock on the starting job?
How many times does the offensive coordinator have to misplace his team's identity before it's ovbious that he is not of championship caliber?
Dallas is the kind of team that should celebrate winning a first-round playoff game, because it's a fringe organization.
The BCS poll is brilliant, it's perfect, it is the ideal tool to select four teams for a playoff.
It rewards manly scheduling. And just where are all the sissies who said OU's non-conference schedule was too tough? You can come out from under the table now.
But to pick the final two, any poll is a crock, it's robbery, it's cheating.
The team in the power position is Alabama, as it plays two teams above it and should win both.
Oregon is the fraud. It has played nobody and will not play anybody, and couldn't beat OU or Alabama or Boise State or TCU on the best day it ever had. Team Nike has an all right high school Harry offense -- though so did Nebraska until it played somebody decent and choked -- but the Duck defense is full of quacks. Oregon is at USC and at Oregon State, two average clubs. Hopefully the truth will out.
The OU quarterback is playing about like Bradford did, with most passes hitting receivers in the face mask. New runner Finch looks like Joe Washington. Missouri is a much, much better team than in the past because of an aggressive new defense. But it can't run a lick. Now we know why Nebraska is going to the Big Ten. It is a Big Ten team. Now we know why it went with a throwback option attack. It can't catch.
If it's Alabama-OU, toss-up. Alabama stomps Oregon into the duck blind.
Michigan State might be pretty good.
Boise State and TCU have assumed the position to be mugged again.

So before the game, Texas was worthless and Nebraska was back and now that the game is over, Texas is decent and Nebraska is a choker?
Ok....

Yes, what a difference a few days make. Ha! Ha!
Roy Finch is a keeper, he might want to not look so surprised when he breaks through a big hole into the open. Kind of a give-a-way he needs more experience. Those arms looked like he could curl the whole I-state cheerleaders.

Mr. Picker, I think the question is when will Jerry Jones stop worrying about how he looks and concentrate on how his team looks. You have THREE running backs who can play in the NFL, THREE wide receivers who can play in the NFL and a coaching staff that apparently goes through the motions during the week of game preparation, because they have those players. The Cowboy's QB and offensive coordinator both need new jobs, just not in the NFL.

So, the BCS is perfect, huh?
It rewards manly schedules and OU is #1, so you are happy as you have been touting their fancy opponents (including a Utah State team who lost by 3 TDs to La Tech). Yet #2 is a fraud because they have not played anyone.
So, the BCS is perfect up to a certain point, and that point stops after #1?
I would agree that the BCS is about as close as you can get to putting the right teams in place for a playoff, if we had one, but it has its flaws. For example, The Ducks have not played anyone,,, blah,,, blah,,,
But the way you present your argument is contradictory to your very first point.

Hey Pick, Just curious... Who would you like if Boise St. played OU in the BCS Championship game?
The Picker
The BCS is the best way to pick playoff teams.
You'd rather have PR flunkies do a coach's voting for him, or have homer writers or TV people pick the teams?
Nick, based on what happened before with Boise State, and the way the OU quarterback is throwing, you'd have to think OU would be all over those people and win handily. Again, the poll seems to be set up perfectly for Alabama, lose early on the road to a good team, play a couple or three top ten teams, win, vault to the top.

The Harris and Coaches polls are biased as the coaches or individuals affiliated with the big conferences will never give teams like Boise St. and TCU their due. The reason Boise St. is #3 is because coaches and Harris refuse to vote a non-AQ team as #1. Oregon is fraudulent, the Picker is right. Their schedule is soft and the PAC-10 has no defenses whatsoever.
The people who should determine who the best two teams are to play in the BCS championship game are Vegas oddsmakers. My guess would be that if Boise St. and OU played on a neutral field this week, Boise St. would be 3-4 pt favorites. And as I've said numerous times, there is not a better QB to manage a game than Kellen Moore and there is not a better coach in America than Chris Peterson.

If OU and Boise played this weekend, OU would be favored 9. And would cover.
MexiMike

Pick, did OSU win convincingly enough at Tech for you to pick them over Nebraska this coming weekend?
LaffALot

Boise St’s, Kellen Moore is one of THE Top 3 QB’s in the nation. They got plenty of California boys on that roster that’ll give any BCS team “fits” But IF the BCS “poll’ really does take into account strength of schedule, then by the end of the season you could see 3 to 4 teams (including TCU) that “should” jump ahead of Boise St.
OU better be prepared for the Nights of Columbia Tiger Mania. On the road, very hostile environment, Will Landry pass like Bradford or pass out?
Who doesn’t enjoy the annual Jerry Jones Traveling Cowboy Circus? An organization that cares more about perception than results w/ acts that can’t perform & talent that has no Mojo
Hey Snicker, maybe you need to soak your Alabama Adulation Elephant Trunk in some ‘Tide. They have to play a ‘salty Miss St team that should be 7-2 when they meet before traveling to Baton Rouge & Lucky Les’s house the next week. But I do agree the SEC West Champ will win the SEC title game & have an excellent chance @ being one of the 2 teams invited to the BCS championship game

FWIW, several polls are out there that give conference strength ratings & guess who is #1 w/ the best wins Out of Conference? The Ticker’s favorite--Pac 10.
Big 12 shows up as #2

MMike, Texas Tech could play in skirts.
But yeah, your team looked fine. What's the highest ranked team OSU has beaten, the Aggies sliding in at number 88?
But you can't blame a team for winning.
Yeah, you can win Saturday if Nebraska drops three or four more touchdown passes. Make that high school option quarterback pass, he could toss a few in the parking lot.

I love it when people post about OU's weak non-conference schedule. HELLO...Case in Point! Look at the result of scheduling tough games, OU is in pole position so the reward is well worth the risk.
Yeah, we just got by Utah State as some would point out. Who cares! They got the W and moved on.
Show should people still bringing it up. Move On!

Mr. Picker, not long ago you wrote, "Here we go again with the nasty and probably illegal BCS." How quickly we . . . .
Ignatz

IF the BCS picked top 8 teams and a play-off ensued it might be relevant. As for the Cowgirls (no offense meant to the fairer sex), the team's biggest problem is a total lack of on field discipline in re stupid penalties.A sense of "party atmosphere" entitlement dominates this team, which could still make the play-offs.Romo not really that bad unless he tries to force things. My big pick last week was OSU drubbing Tech. I've got another coming up so stay tuned. By the way,Picker, there is another team in Alabama that might have a little influence on final BCS, Auburn.

You can scream at Jerry Jones all you want, he can't hear you or anyone else. Dallas has all the talent to host the Super Bowl, but will wind up serving the crackers 'n cheese to two other teams and have nice seats for the game.
OU is as good as any team in the NCAA right now, which is not as much a compliment to OU as an indication that no team has really stood out this season. If, and that a big if, OU has finally stopped playing an inch above its competition and has learned to put teams away, they should be the faves in whatever matchup they might face.
Auburn is the dark horse, that QB is frightening and it wouldn't surprise me if they beat 'Blama in a shoot-out.
Rarely have I laughed so hard at Nebraska. They've planned & prepared for their showdown against Texas since zero-minus-one second of last years Big 12 Champ game and they got beat up. Hopefully, Gundy has seen that if you stick 8 defenders up front and make the 'Shuckers pass, the game is in the bag for OSU.
What about Mike Leach to Minnie? I'd bet he'd win 8 games a year, upset Ohio State once in a while, and infuriate everyone to the point of getting fired again within 5 years...maybe 6.

I didn't see the Texas/Nebraska game. From the stats and the best articles covering the game though, their receivers either don't have very good hands or else they choked. Probably some of both ? My guess is they won't do that against OSU though. This will be a harder test for OSU than TXAM was. Which doesn't mean OSU loses. It's interesting to me that the refs called 8 or so illegal procedure penalties against OSU when OSU was playing the Texas Aggies, but then nothing like that happened for OSU on the road against either Louisiana or Texas Tech. Nebraska is better than it showed against the Longhorns. Still, I think OSU is better than some might think based on what TXAM has done since their game with OSU. I was at the OSU/TXTECH game in Lubbock. The Pokes played with a lot of resolve and it's not like the Red Raiders just rolled over and died for them. Anymore than A&M did. A&M wanted that game bad. But, the OSU fans and the OSU team stayed determined throughout the game themselves. Everybody seemed to understand it was going to take everything OSU had to have a chance to win that game. Now, ditto that here and more against the Huskers. On the bright sides, despite what some have said, OSU does (!) have a defense. And against Tech the kickoff squad played it's best game of the year so far. Keep it coming ... go Pokes !
And yeah, thanks to the Picker for confirming further for me what really happened in Lincoln. Besides his being The Picker, I consider the man a journalist. Even though his previous continuous praise of Nebraska has irritated me. Like they say, it's a hard life and then you die

So now Nebraska choked...I thought they were gonna score 55. I'll go ahead and stick with my original pick of Horns shutting down a freshman running the read option. Not a stretch really. I think I took OU, OSU,and Wisconsin too this weekend. Anytime you need some handicapping advice just let me know Pick.

I agree, Pick. If the spread stays at -3 for Nebraska, I'm guessing you'll go the similar route as you did last week against Tech and say Nebraska -1. Can't blame you there.
In fact, it worked out well for the Pokes last week so I encourage it!

Mr. Picker,
Didn't you say that Nebraska was gonna beat Texas easily and that Texas had no chance?
The Cowboys are a joke this season. Slomo is terrible and shouldn't even be in the NFL.
I think the BCS would be great for choosing an 8 team playoff.
Oregon has a very balanced, explosive offensive attack. However, their defense is questionable. If they don't score a lot of points, they lose. The Bama Offense would wipe the floor with the Oregon defense.

Oh no! Another week going 6 and 10. Junie S is slipping in the rankings! She has been feeling a little down, where's the magic? Today Junie received her prize for Week 1 in the mail, all the way over here in Woodstock, NY! Junie thinks her new matching sweatshirt and collar are stunning! Thank you Picker Contest and Tulsa World!!

Pick, Finch is gonna be the real deal. I don't think there will ever be another Joe Washington. I think he is the greatest back in the history of OU. I see Finch as a Gregg Pruitt clone. Not a bad comparison either way.
