Funny Times: Aggie Joke; Thunder Joke
Published: 8/15/2011 12:35 PM

Talk about the ultimate Aggie Joke: Since when do you run from the competition like little sissies?

Since when are you afraid to stand and fight?

Since when is a 5-7 team to be feared?

Don't you get it? There's not enough money in the world to ease the pain of a SEC year.

Mack at Texas had one good year thanks to the Super Hero at quarterback. Otherwise he couldn't carry Stoops' golf bag.

So Texas has a TV channel at ESPN. So what. Are the Aggies scared of competition from female water polo? The NCAA won't let anything unfair transpire.

Man up Aggies, or cower off to the cess pool of college athletics, the SEC.

Next: Remember when the Thunder signed Kendrick Perkins for what was it, a million a basket? Remember when the instant authorities on the radio in OKC and at the Daily Oklahomering said this was a brilliant signing, the missing piece to a championship?

Remember when we took one look at this guy and said he didn't resemble the Celtic pride and couldn't play a lick?

A couple of days ago Perkins was arrested for nasty conduct in a bar brawl.

Where are the instant geniuses now? Probably with the people who said it was a good idea to fire coach Nolan. In hiding.

Academic cess pool? A&M is the second ranked academic school in the Big 12, they would be 4 in the SEC

Athletes study in the SEC?

Swisher (last year)
Every big football program is going to have athletes that don't "study." Dez Bryant couldn't pass the academic requirements to get into LSU
The Picker (last year)
Swisher, you're right, good eye, I misspoke about the academics. The SEC academics are as good if not better than the Big 12. It's the football athletic cess pool on my mind.

they're going, they're not going, they're going, they're not going.......... Gezz, can the ladies make up they're minds!!! god bless coach mike ditka!!!

Perkins could not even score in a bar!

With Nolan gone from Shock, Shock will soon be gone.

I see the picker is following the same ridiculous logic that the rest of the media is using. The Aggies are leaving for the SEC because they are afraid of competition? Yet there are going to a conference where they will supposedly get destroyed? That makes absolutely no sense.

A&M got tired of Texas' bullcrap and abandoned the sinking ship of the big12. They saw an out and took it, good for them.

They can't even count how many teams there are in the Big 12 nor the Big 10 & is the Pac 10 still the called Pac 10.... Man, use them college educated minds & learn count & label....

"Remember when we took one look at this guy and said he didn't resemble the Celtic pride and couldn't play a lick?" Actually, no I don't remember that....

Nolan got fired ???? I thought he gave up & quit....

"Since when do you run from the competition like little sissies?

Since when are you afraid to stand and fight?"

Isn't that what Nolan did ????

As for the NBA, can the whole league & start all over, void the contracts, start from scratch & see who wants to play for the money that is offered.... Of course, you'll have those stupid owners who'll overpay for a guy to bounce a ball & in a few years they'll have to destroy the league once again....

I used to love the NBA BUT now with all the millionaires relaxing & fighting in bars, beaches, & elsewhere throughout the world & all the while saying they NEED more money, it ain't nothing but something that smells worse than a mountain of manure....

Exactly what has Texas done wrong besides finish 5-7?

The Aggies don't want water polo on TV.

Fine. Quit and go to the SEC.

Mr. Picker,

1. If the Aggies want to join the SEC and go 4-4 in conference play every year, that's their problem. If they stay in the Big 12 Minus 2, they can actually win a conference title. If they go to the SEC, they won't even come close to the conference title. Sure, A&M makes a few more bucks. However, they sacrifice any chance they had at winning a conference title. Remember that A&M has just 1 Big 12 title in 15 seasons.

2. Kendrick is a nice player to come off the bench. However, he isn't starting material and isn't worth the millions that the Thunder are paying him.

Picker, You surprise me on this one as you mock Texas A&M. I often enjoy your articles and poking fun but you seem to give a pass on this being a continued reflection of a dysfunctional conference that has never seemed to value its members as a whole. What has Texas done wrong? It appears they have a history of self-will running riot to the point of no regard for what is the greater good for the conference they are in. They appear to want to act like an independent while having benefits of being in an elite conference. I admit maybe they can pull it off, but they also are proving adept at blowing up conferences behind them. Other institutions have big egos as well, but they seem to at least grasp the value of being a part of something greater than just themselves.

Kendrick Perkins is dumb for sure, but he's also the missing piece for a title. You are way underselling Perkins talent. Perkins is considered a top 5 defensive center and will be an incredible help for the Thunder this year, hopefully on their way to a title. This is all assuming there is a season of course... BTW Perkins only made 7 mil this year and his contract was front loaded. I believe Perkins will make less next year. Compare to Anderson Varejou (?) who made 7.7 mil which I believe will go up next year. Simply put, Perkins is a bargain.
okcthunderrolls (last year)
Perkins is only 26 so he is just starting his prime and has already been the defensive anchor on a title team (at age 24).

A&M is fleeing a sinking ship? What?

News flash: They are the ones making it sink!

Texas isn't creating instability. They are still standing in the Big 12. The ones creating instability are the ones who are actually leaving the conference.

If you don't like the way Texas is doing things BEAT THEM ON THE FIELD. The LHN looks more and more like a failure every day. The Big 12's tv contract is about to get another huge boost once they renegotiate with ABC.

A&M going to the SEC is all about ego and throwing a temper tantrum. In the end, they will become another middle of the pack school that bit off more than it could chew.
huricandeoro (last year)
Everyone knew the Big12 was going down sooner rather than later. A&M was smart to get out while they could and stay in a regional league rather than end up in a ridiculous configuration of the Pac10.

They did beat them on the field last year and will probably do it again this year so I see no reason to think they're scared of Texas.

I also find no fault in A&M choosing to challenge themselves by going to the best conference. If the ultimate goal is to win the National Championship then you're going to have to beat them at some point. Will it be more difficult to win the conference? Sure, but kudos to them for being willing to play the best and try to beat the best.
MexiMike (last year)
Huricandeoro, that makes no sense. The only ones controlling how long the Big 12 will last are the ones deciding whether to stay or flee.

A&M is causing the Big 12 to go down sooner rather than later.

Yes, A&M beat Texas last year and will likely beat them this year. So keep that up instead of bolting for another conference and they can help shift the power away from UT.

Also, A&M going to the SEC has nothing to do with them "trying to challenge themselves." It's about ego and trying to play the "We're better than you because we're in the best conference" card. Well, guess what--so is Vanderbilt and Miss St. How have their football programs done over the 10+ years?

If the goal is to be National Champion, you don't have to play in the best conference to achieve it. All you have to do is beat them in one game. I guarantee whomever that team is next year will get a lot more respect and national attention than a 6-6 A&M team in the SEC.
The Picker (last year)
The Texas TV network could be a big fat joke.

And who exactly is expected to watch the junk that will fill the time. Only the people in the silly shows and the ones filming them, that's our guess. It could be a problem concerning unfairness when it comes to recruiting. But the NCAA won't let it happen.

So, again, 61241, what has Texas done to drive you from your roots?

Now, about the conference, there could be a valid point there. You're saying it's all about money. Which is what Arkansas said. But what good is all the money in the world going to do if you're in the Peanut Bowl every year. Ark football has been on the back burner since the day it bolted to the SEC. Look at Boise, in a BCS bowl every year, raking in the money that way.

So take the money, fine. See you on the academic bowl shows on the tube.

All this hypothetical re-alignment talk is boring beyond belief. Houston, BYU, they're bums, take them, forget them, who cares. OU and OSU playing tennis in Oregon, talk about nutty. It's clear some teams are bent on ruining a good thing. So go ruin it. Then let's tee it up and play.

Regarding Perkins: You people want big-time trouble makers scoring two a game on your peachy sweet team?

Shock fans, all nine of you: You getting the record this weekend, most losses in earth history? Our advice is go re-hire coach Nolan.

61241 (last year)
Picker, sorry I was out of town a few days, but to answer your question...this isn't my roots here originally, which is why I believe I can have some objectivity as this unfolds. Texas is not evil by any means, yet they continue to push the limits along with ESPN that alienates their fellow members. It is not about whether this channel draws a lot of viewers initially. It is about a school that continues to provoke trouble full well knowing that each time they do it they are weakening the bond of the Big XII. They are poisoning what otherwise ought to be a strong healthy conference. It is like being in a sick family system with an alcoholic and the alcoholic sits dumbfounded that others are pulling away from him and moving on somewhere else while he is completely incapable at looking at how his conduct is tearing up everything around his world.
D.Wade (last year)
Do you have a problem with the Big XII going down Meximike? If so what is it? More money there for them. Chance to compete with the very best. They will also still be exactly in the same pecking order in that conference as they are in Big XII middle of the pack and every few years get within a game of the SEC championship, but still not quite make it. Come on South Carolina made it to an SEC championship game, if the ol' ball coach can get there so can A&M. For such a tough conference they sure seem to have a lot of teams run that gauntlet undefeated. You tell me, is conference better with them or without them? How about Nebraska? With those two teams we are fighting for bragging rights as to who is the second best conference in College Football without them we are now fighting to hold on to the fourth best conference, trying not to dip below the Big East and the ACC. A&M has just stuck a big ol middle finger in the air as they come out smelling like a rose. More of everything, money, exposure, recruiting by joing the top conference plus the added bonus of really sticking it to Texas. I have never seen such cowards, even the picker. "Oh no, we have to play an SEC team! We'd rather be like Boise State 11 cupcakes and one big dog and whine that we don't get shot at BCS!" Maybe things have changed from my youth. But I always wanted to play the best. Texas A&M have improved their lot as did Arkansas, yep took awhile to get their feet under them, mostly due to a decade of terrible coaching hires, but they are coming on. A&M will do the same, or get squashed, I think they have too much pride in Aggieland for that.
