Future looking good for OSU?

There are still two weeks to go before Oklahoma State takes on Oregon in the Holiday Bowl. But never fear, someone is already looking ahead to next season.

If this very early forecast of the 2009 preseason poll is anywhere close to accurate next August, then next year could be a very big year for the Cowboys.

The Web site nationalchamps.net released its College Football Early Bird Preview on Tuesday. In its early guess at the preseason 2009 rankings, the Internet publication listed OSU sixth in its top 25.

This is the eighth year Nationalchamps.net has posted its prognostication of next year's preseason top 25 poll. According to the release it sent out Tuesday, the site has predicted virtually the same Top 10 the official AP Poll puts out eight months later in August.

We'll definitely check back next August to see if this Web site is close to being correct. If OSU does defeat Oregon in San Diego in two weeks to finish this year 10-3, it would not be surprising to see the Cowboys in more than a few preseason top 10 polls.

As a Cowboys (the orange kind) fan, I would love to be in the pre-season top 10, but as a fan of college football in general, I think there should be no rankings accepted at all until several games into the season -- the preseason polls always end up privileging some "name" team(s) who don't end up deserving it, but take too long to fall back to their proper level, and thereby penalize teams "on the rise" (as it were :-)... GO POKES!!!
