Game Day Thoughts – Bedlam
Published: 11/28/2008 1:44 PM

Enough is enough. Enough about the Oklahoma State ticket policy and why it is going to be disappointing/frustrating/annoying/just plain out unfortunate that this highly-anticipated Bedlam game will not be played in a sold out stadium.

Enough is enough. Enough about the Bowl Championship Series standings, style points, 45-35, 65-21, why the BCS system stinks, and what needs to be done to ensure Oklahoma a Big 12 championship game berth.

Enough is enough. Part of Bedlam's charm is the off-the field activities surrounding the event. But what takes place on the field is what truly matters in Bedlam.

Are we in store for another Bedlam thriller in Stillwater?

Three things I'll be watching closely from the OSU perspective on this Bedlam Saturday night:

***Avoiding the early knockout: In the last month, OU has had the propensity of taking out its opponent early. The Cowboys have to show the ability to counterpunch by matching and exceeding the Sooners' early effort.

***Offensive efficiency: OSU averaged 52.6 points in its first five games. But as the competition became upgraded in Big 12 play, the Cowboys have averaged 32.5 points in their last six games. OSU will need to score at least five touchdowns to have a legitimate chance at winning. The Four Aces – Zac Robinson, Kendall Hunter, Dez Bryant and Brandon Pettigrew – all will have to be operating at peak performance level.

***Special plays on special teams: With Perrish Cox on kickoff returns and Bryant on punt returns, the Cowboys are capable of producing big plays. This is the area where OSU has a decisive edge on OU. It must take advantage of that.

Bill - Your 3 things to watch for are right on the $$. The Cowboys simply have to play at a higher level on both sides of the ball to pull off a win. I'm curious to see if Coach Beckman brings in a scheme that OU has not seen or will not be looking for. I'm certain that Texas & T.Tech both supplied plenty of ample "tapes" to the OSU coaches on strategy. (Although, I'm sure Tech's was not viewed.)
Look for Coach Gundy & Brewer to bring out "all the stops" on play calling to fool Venebles & Stoops.
You can't rule out emotion for 18-22 year old kids. Yes, talent usually wins, but this is such an emotional game, particularly for OSU.
GO COWBOYS!!!
