Getting Attention in Orlando

Orlando, like many Conference USA cities, just doesn't really notice C-USA.
Orlando, like many others in the league, is a huge city with other and bigger interests.
As a result, Conference USA often gets lost in the coverage.
Unlike Tulsa, where TU is a big deal, Central Florida often gets overshadowed in a city with tons to do.
Imagine trying to get fans for football and basketball games in one of the great tourist towns in the world.
It is the same problem in Las Vegas, where UNLV often gets overlooked in favor of bigger events.
C-USA faces the same problems in many of its cities that the old WAC faced.
Yes, they have schools located in some the biggest and best towns in America.
Unfortunately, those schools often get overlooked because of professional teams and other larger schools.
For instance, last weekend, the Houston newspaper didn't have a story in advance of Saturday's game between Rice and TU. Imagine you are playing a college football team and not even the hometown newspaper feels it is necessary to write a story.
The game did get a story in Sunday's paper but it was small, got a tiny headline and was buried inside.
That won't happen in Orlando. UCF is a big enough deal that the Knights do get some attention, although far less than one would imagine for a major college football conference championship game.
However, it is a reminder that bigger is not always better for Conference USA teams. Trying to get a piece of the publicity pie is much more difficult as the pie gets bigger.

If TU wins it should get lots of favorable publicity nationwide!! Wo cares if the Oleander press doesn't care!!!! Gooooooooo TU! Blow the KNIGHTS AWAY. espn WILL GENERATE A LOT OF EXPOSURE!!!!

I too have been frustrated with the coverage of C-USA by the Houston Chronicle (and the Dallas Morning News). The Chronicle gave no coverage at all to the Conference USA championship game between Tulsa and UCF! They had several pages of coverage on the Big 12. Both the Chronicle and the Dallas Morning News are married to the Big 12. Basically, no one else matters, even though SMU is located in Dallas and both Rice and Uof H are located in Houston.
Sad situation!!! That makes me appreciate the coverage given to TU by the Tulsa World.
