Girls Behaving Badly?
Published: 5/1/2008 9:12 PM

It seems like every sport has bad boys. You can't swing a police blotter without hitting an athlete who has somehow found trouble.
There are also bad girls in the athlete universe. Not even sports like tennis (Jennifer Capriati) and figure skating (Tonya Harding) are immune.
So, with the LPGA Tour in town, why can't I think of a single example of a bad girl in professional golf? Everyone knows about PacMan. But wherefore art thou, Ms. PacMan?
I asked one of the players in the SemGroup Championship field about the lack of bad girls on the LPGA Tour and what she said made sense.
She said it's easy to misbehave in a team sport because you can still get paid.
But if you misbehave in an individual sport like golf, you run the risk of taking a big hit in the bank account. If you get suspended, you don't get to play in tournaments and you don't make any money.
Bottom line: Golf is a sport where it doesn't pay to be in the doghouse. Maybe there's a lesson in there somewhere.

Maybe this is a bit nerdy of me, but wherefore are thou would be the modern equivalent of "why are you" not "where are you". Now that that's over, I just think golf is a different game. I hate to admit it but the move Happy Gilmore makes a good point. How many bad boys of golf are there? Yet, there are bad boys of tennis and it's an individual sport. I just think that anyone that doesn't uphold the golf "code of ethics" would be banned in heartbeat whereas other sports don't care nearly as much.

What about John Daly? Granted, he's not a girl, but he's definitely a bad boy golfer.
