For the next 45 days, Rob Glass is in charge of the Oklahoma State football program.
No, head coach Mike Gundy has not taken a leave of absence or is contemplating a career with the Blue Angels. And no, Larry Fedora and Joe DeForest have not been demoted from their assistant coaching positions and titles.
But for the rest of this month and all of July leading up to the start of practice Aug. 2, Glass is the man the Cowboy players report and answer to.
In his role as strength and conditioning coach, Glass and his staff get the players in shape and prepared for rigors of preseason workouts in the August heat and the start of the season.
Glass' conditioning program has curtailed the number of nagging injuries. The program also has turned some boys into men.
Keith Toston and Russell Okung were true freshmen who saw significant playing time last season. After having gone through Glass' strength and conditioning program a whole academic year, both players have changed the way their bodies look considerably.
Toston, a tailback, has added 15-20 pounds of muscle, most noticeably in his upper body to take on additional pounding.
Okung, a starting offensive tackle, played last season at 275-280 pounds. He expects to be close to 300 pounds this fall.
Gundy has constantly repeated for the past two years that Glass is worth every penny of his $150,000 annual salary. Glass, right now, is the most valuable person in the OSU program.
