Golf Uncovered

Here is a British Open wrap.

Tiger Woods: Played one of the worst final rounds in major championship golf history. Even considering somebody afraid to hit a driver as one of the best ever to play the game is a joke. Woods could stand in an end zone and not hit a drive in bounds. Think Jack was afraid to drive the ball in a major? The chicken iron game in England almost worked for Woods. But he had too many 250-yard shots to greens.

Adam Scott: His long granny putter says, "I can't putt a lick." Almost made the French guy seem Swiss.

Ricky Fowler: The next Anthony Kim?

Anthony Kim: The next John Daly?

Graeme McDowell: Thinks he's better than he is.

Bubba Watson: Gorilla game lacks steady nerves.

Rory McElroy: How did this guy ever win a major?

Dustin Johnson: Hacker.

Brandt Snekeker: Twitcher.

Smiling Phil: Head pro at Stepford Country Club.

Luke Donald: Soft Euro.

Steve Stricker: Soft American.

Lee Westwood: The next Monty.

Sergio Garcia: The next Westwood.

Monty: The next nobody.

Ernie Els: Finished ahead of the chokers.

John Daly: Could have been worse.

Jason Dufner: Looks like a linebacker coach at Fresno State.

ESPN coverage: Typically horrific.
Example one: The analysts kept ranting and raving about how Tiger should have taken an unplayable lie in a trap and dropped the ball outside the sand. The only problem there, it's against the rules.
Example two: They cut to a commercial when Tiger was preparing to hit his second shot on a par five.
Example three: They kept saying the wind could bother a guy's long putter. The wind was so weak it didn't bother butterflies.
Can't anybody anywhere call these games?

Ha! "Smiling Phil: Head pro at Stepford Country Club."....very creative, Picker.

Was this the same Tiger you wrote off as finished a few weeks ago? Third in a major aint bad. Now, he would have been good enuff to win if he had only hit the ball harder. What's your handicap, Pick?

The Picker is currently writing better than Tiger is playing golf.

He is?

Mr. Picker, good article. In respect to an unplayable ball, Tiger could have returned to the spot where he last played and that would have been out of that nasty bunker. I wonder if you can make that same shot out of that bunker without turning into a pretzel?

Gene-O: Those 250-yard second shots to greens wore old Tiger out. Notice when he tips his hat, it's thinning out up there.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
