Sunny Golloway stepped to the microphone for Oklahoma baseball media day this week and took less than a minute to drop the gauntlet on the Sooners' 2011 season.
"I clearly understand the excitement and the buzz around the program right now with the preseason rankings," he said. "Even though we got our hearts broken and really wanted more last year, I think it's left a taste in our players' mouths to get back to Omaha and accomplish our goal of winning a national championship. We've made great strides in a very short time, but it's not the goal that we're looking for.
"We're looking for winning a national championship. We're looking for winning a Big 12 championship, which has eluded this program. There are some lofty goals that are still out there."
As it is, OU starts the year ranked fifth by Baseball America, and as the favorite to capture that elusive conference title. First pitch in today's season-opener against William & Mary is scheduled for 3 p.m.
It will be interesting to see how the Sooners come out and respond to their coach's season-opening statement.
