Good and Bad News for OU
Published: 9/19/2011 12:04 PM
Last Modified: 9/19/2011 12:06 PM

As usual, everybody missed the biggest story of the weekend.

First, about TU-OSU, somebody should be arrested for letting them play that game so late. Obviously, money -- refunds -- was a factor. Moneybags T. Bone Pickens could have written TU a check and everybody could have gone home all the better. Both defenses were terrible.

Concerning OU, the defense is wicked. Receivers should notify next of kin before running over the middle in search of a pass. Quarterback Jones was his usual erratic self on the road. The receiver on the game-winning pass could have signaled for a fair catch. We'll see how good or average Florida State is this weekend, with Clemson. The guess is State is closer to average.

Lots or bad coaching jobs are being done on the college level.

Here are the worst five.

5. Paterno. The offense is duller than the uniforms.
4. Gill, Kansas. His own school wouldn't hire this guy.
3. Nutt, Mississippi. One of SEC's worst.
2. Mike Stoops, Arizona. Walking papers being drafted.
1. Rick Neuheisel, UCLA. Big mouth, bigger flop.

Concerning Tony Turnover of Dallas. He was great because there was absolutely no pressure on him. Hurt, nobody expected a thing. Let's see how he does fit.

The biggest story of the weekend: Texas. Texas is back and is big, bad trouble for OU in Dallas. The freshman runner is the next Peterson. The quarterback is the next McCoy, very mobile and accurate. The defense is almost as good as OU's.

Notice how many smart people have begun to side with us and against Boren concerning the potentially dumb move to the Rat Pac Ten?

Florida State at Clemson will answer many questions.

So if FSU beats Clemson, let me guess, we start questioning Clemson? Pathetic.

OU @ FSU has already been answered. Move on.
The Picker (last year)
The OU defense was terrific.

The Texas runner was a top recruit.

It's a quarterback's game, everybody knows that.

the ou fsu game was one of the best games within the last three years IMHO. they knocked the snot out of each other. ou showed class in coming back and winning that game. next stop, big ten, please!!!!
Tulsan in Exile (last year)
Florida State is in the ACC, a conference that is all excited about adding the likes of Syracuse and Pitt. SYRACUSE and PITT!!!! When OU beats an SEC team in a big time, crucial game, I will take their number 1 ranking seriously. Until then, Alabama is number 1, followed by LSU, and then Boise (another team OU can't beat when it counts). OU is probably a top-ten team, that is all we know for now.

Did you find the golf ball I left at the front desk last week. That should square us . . . right?
The Picker (last year)
The guard sent it to the lab, due back this week.
Thanks.

Your logic concerning FSU and Clemson should remain on the Texas team. They have played nobody of substance. Lets see how they look against a mediocre ISU in Iowa.
The Picker (last year)
Iowa State isn't mediocre in the least. It is leaning toward the big time. It has speedy players at the skilled positions, and a gutsy quarterback. And it beat Big Ten superhumanpower Iowa and eastern titan Uconn!

8 - 1 ATS. Pays better than the little contest.

Nothing will be learned about FSU at Clemson. FSU will lose. Thanks to the Sooners, FSU is walking on crutches, with all that intensity and preperation getting ready for OU going up in smoke. This is like Leonard fighting Hearns after Hagler beat Hearns into submission. Not a lot left. FSU will rebound after Clemson. You are right pick it is QB league. Texas doesn't have one...yet. Running back second coming of AD? hahaha no wait...hahahaha...you're killing me over hear Pick. Now tells us to take your wife please.
colhi64 (last year)
Texas is back. Defense will win it for OU if no one gets hurt. FSU has a great defense and will ride that until the quarterback is healed and ready to go again. I still say FSU in top 3 at end of year. I am just waiting for the SEC to knock each other off and OU/FSU slug it out again in the NC game.
Fire The Politicians (last year)
Nose Picker: The next Peterson? In other words, he will gain almost 2,000 yards his first season and not win the Heisman only because one of his teammates took votes from him. He is that good?

You are partially right about FSU. They are outstanding on defense but weak on offense. No running game. Not very good receivers either. They were one dimensional and their QB was their whole offense. You cannot give Venables 2 weeks to prepare for a one dimensional team. He will crush them every time.

As for McCoy to Shipley 2, maybe in a year or 2. But those skinny little kids will get an education in the Cotton Bowl. The OU defense is fast and they hit hard. Just ask the dude they carried off on a stretcher and the other dude who got his shoulder torn up. These guys are like caged animals.
soko (last year)
Picker, the Rhodes Scholar Prez is taking his team to the PAC and has leveraged Texas to go with him to preserve our recruiting. Who are these smart guys you are referencing and what is their superior plan? The Big 10? Please.

Pac 16 is the clear choice.

I've decided that you are too smart to not realize this fact and are just goofing with us to generate comments. What, if you are serious, is a better plan than the Pac with us keeping 5 of the Big XII together, two Texas teams and both Ok teams all in one conference?
LaffALot (last year)
How do you keep a conference together
when no one trust the other school
from looking for a better deal?

Clemson will show us the real Fl St
& Iowa St just might win again over them Texans

Speaking of bad coaching jobs,
what about choke Todd Graham @ Pitt?
or Kelly @ Notre Lame?
dcood (last year)
Laff: Right on the $ about Kelly and, to a lesser extent, Graham. The Pick is getting way too predictable: of course you now say FSU is avg. after, all, that is the standard line anytime OU beats a ranked team. Beating OSU wasnt a big win, beating NU for the Big 12 title was no big deal...blah blah. Why are the national media(not the sports animals) all hailing OU for having the guts to schedule like they do and then delivering with the win in the harshest environment any Big 12 team will play this season. I was there and have been to College Station...this was worse. Coudnt hear the guy talking to you 2 feet from your face...and not to mention all the F'us we got. At least in Nebraska and College St and even Stillwater, they dont look right at you and tell you to F off....Good defenses and 85k can make a QB erratic. The throw on 3rd and 12 on the winning drive to Broyles was aa big as it gets. And not sure what you were watching on the game winner, yes it was under thrown but I think there was an NFL first round CB right there and Stills outjumped him for the ball. Ur right, FSU will not look nearly as good this week as they did AT HOME for a game they have been getting ready for for 9 months! And they got physically whipped so severely by OU that several of their best players wont play...and btw, Clemson is not too bad.
MexiMike (last year)
OSU led the game 45-6 in the 3rd quarter before losing interest at 2 in the morning. Let's wait on calling the defense "terrible" until after this Saturday against A&M.

OU got a big win. Very salty defense. Really exposed the young FSU QB. I'm curious to see how they do in conference play.

Texas is NOT back. Give me a break. They played a horrible UCLA team. How did they do the week before against BYU...on their own field? I still expect eight wins at the max from them this season.
Glenn616 (last year)
Is Texas back? I'll reserve judgement until they play teams that are actually better than BYU and UCLA?

OSU will need to work on its run defense this week to prepare for A&M. We'll find out a lot about their defense this weekend.

MexiMike, I see FSU being tough at home, not so tough on the road. FSU is still at least a year away from being really good. I'm not sure if they'll be able to handle their first road game against Clemson (whose offense is coached by former TU offensive coach Chad Morris).

Picker, I agree with you on ISU. They're a pretty good team. I think that Paul Rhoads is a very underrated football coach.
