Here are the top stories of the day.

OH NO: WE LOSE THE RYDER CUP!

Only: Who cares.

Pay up Gene.

All the Ryder Cup does is identify punks like Sergio, Euros who can't man up on their own. Ian Poultry Poulter is the new Sergio, a nobody who wears sissy clothing and would be invisible without the PGA pro tour.

The Ryder Cup format is something like you'd see the Fourth of July at Mohawk, some people hitting alternate shots while standing one leg with one eye closed, something like that.

OU IS THE LUCKIEST TEAM EVER

After the Texas game, the Sooner coaches can never complain about a bad break for ten years. OU runs on third and 20, makes one inch, Texas does a personal foul, OU goes on to score.

When OU gets ready to punt, the Sooner offense warms up on the sideline, because it's obvious the opposing guy is going to flub the punt.

Texas pretty much stinks. Nebraska 55, Texas 10.

Teams with the best chance of beating OU? In order, Baylor, Missouri.

The OU defense is average.

PETE CARROLL

What could be better than seeing this clown getting drubbed by Sam B. and the Rams. Carroll looked like a donkey caught in the headlights. He is a laughing stock as a pro coach, using a challenge on a four-yard loss.

Bradford is much better than we thought he would be. He has the knack of the great ones, the ball gets out of there fast.

COLLEGES

Oregon has one of the best offenses in the history of college football.
Fair defense.

Alabama and Oregon are apart from the rest.

Don't get too nutty about Bama, Ark had it pretty much beaten a week ago.

Ohio State is a joke at number two. Must be Kirk Homerstreit promoting the cause at ESPN. Homerstreit and Brent Mustyberger were again horrific in the college game with their obvious Stanford favortism in the Oregon contest. Put Mustyberget in a Vegas bookie joint where his favortism won't get on so many nerves.

The BCS title game is down to the same old, same old: Two from these, SEC, Big 12, Big Ten.

OUR OU-TEXAS PICK

As the local radio and TV airheads were saying watch out for Texas, we calmly said that this one was teed up in the rough for Medium Game Bob, an average foe with a big name, Sooners by 9.

Flip back and read the analysis.

Missed it by one.

Will try to do better next time.

BAD, BAD COACHES

Hey Tech, Hey Kansas, nice fires. Tech coach Tupperware has ruined Tech in one short month.

LSU's Loopy Les has solidified himself as the worst game-time coach since the Bad News Bears.

He is so bad he deserves to be fired even with an undefeated mark!

"The OU defense is average."

I think that requires some qualifiers... The OU D is anything but average when it wants to be... That's the kicker... Quite frankly, that's the way that Brent's D's have played since the 2003 Big XII CCG...
Tulsan in Exile (2 years ago)
I must admit I was dead wrong about Bradford. I thought he was just another system QB with a canon arm who would be befuddled by NFL schemes and exposed as a fraud by the pace of the pro game. Well, he is quite otherwise. He has managed to do what nobody else has done for a long time with the Rams: WIN, and two games in a row, no less. He looks like a real leader who makes the others around him want to play better. Of course, he could still have a tough time staying healthy. But if he gets clobbered, it won't be because of shortcomings on his part. He just flat out looks VERY good.

Here's a qualifier on the OU defense: it is barely average.
hootie (2 years ago)
Of course Bradford looks good.....against cr#p teams. Since St. Louis was the worst in the NFL, they have the easiets schedule. Let's wait and see how he does against some of the better teams in the league. Washington is average and the other 3 they have played stink. Next they get a BAD lions team and another average San Deigo team.

Yes I know I am comparing football to basketball, but Oregons offense reminds me of the 1990 UNLV basketball team.
The Picker (2 years ago)
Art, that's a great comparison. It's exactly what it looks like, about the only time they stop is when somebody goes out of bounds. They shredded Stanford so thoroughly, it sounded like Herbie and and Fussberger were about to cry.

I think he will end up being a good to great NFL QB. Good kid, good work ethic, great additude and good athlete. As long as he doesn't start getting sacked a bunch he will turn out pretty good.

I liked Leach at Tech. I am glad to see Tech losing. By the way Kanasa and Tech have been playing maybe the coaches were hard on the players for a reason.

Welcome to Oklahoma. The lead to this blog made reference to the most ideal competition know to man and it was ignored in favor of more inane comments about OU's defense. Does the concept of "get a life" have any meaning to the Sooner Nation?
The Picker (2 years ago)
Gene, come on, alternating shots isn't golf, that's a parlor game. Is Wolf Puck on the way with the Picker's victory feast?
Ferris Bueller (2 years ago)
I'll vote with Gene as one of those that cared about the Ryder Cup. The Ryder Cup was tremendous. Wish Mahan would have pulled off the nail biter but the Americans faired very well considering the experience advantage that the Europeans had on the Wales course.

Fowler was incredible down the stretch today and likely has many more Ryder Cups ahead of him.

Gene, instead of a victory feast why don't you get The Picker one of those keen USA rain suits. He's all wet, anyway.
Gene M (2 years ago)
Mr. Picker, match play and the "Foursome" were the original formats for golf. Stroke play came along much later. When you use the term "some" in golf it means some of the players are playing some of the time; ergo the alternate shots.

Ferris, you have given me a great idea.
Loki (2 years ago)
Someone just described a sporting event where the players were wearing cute outfits to protect themselves from the elements.

The only thing better would be a manservant carrying your stuff so you wouldn't muss up your attire or get fatigued.

Mr. Picker,
Ohio State is no joke. Didn't the Buckeyes beat Oregon last season in the Rose Bowl? Ohio State's offense is ordinary. However, they do have a very good defense, which is something that Oregon lacks. I think that, on a neutral field, the two teams are evenly matched.

OU's defense is ordinary. They had one great game against FSU. However, being ordinary in 4 of 5 games makes you ordinary on the defensive side of the ball. Why is Brent Venables still the defensive coordinator at OU when his defenses consistently underachieve?

Tech and KU are so bad right now because young athletes today are such pansies that they can't take discipline from their head coaches. If Bo, Woody, and Bear were coaching today, they wouldn't last 5 seasons.
Loki (2 years ago)
Miles may be a genius. He Mad Hattered the Vols into putting too many players on the field, thereby assuring an LSU victory.

Sooner and Cowboy fans wanting to talk football in october instead of golf, who would have thunk it?
love 918 (2 years ago)
Ohio State is a joke. Remember 2006 and 2007 when Ohio State made it to the championship game and got demolished by Florida and Loopy Les? History might repeat itself this year for the buckeyes.

Ohio State wouldn't have a winning record if they were in the SEC.
LaffALot (2 years ago)
IF Ryder Cup isn’t a Big Deal then why is Southern Hills considering looking into hosting the 2020 Ryder Cup?

If OU’s “don’t pass on me” Defense can get by @ Mizzu, they should be okay until Stoolwater.
Shades of 2004, IF OU runs the table, do they really wnat to play in a BCS Championship Game against Oregon or Bama?

Ark had Bama beat? Up by 13 in the 4th Q, then Bama began to play “smaashmouth” & Ark was done. Bama plays like a semi-pro team.

Baylor will need to win its 6th game by the end of Oct. Depth issues will be more critical as their schedule gets even ‘tuffer in Nov. Major “meltdown’ in Lubbock after da’ Bears beat them Red Raiders this weekend?
MexiMike (2 years ago)
Pick are you bragging about your pick of OU over Texas? Really?

People may not remember but you LOCKED Texas to beat OU in the preseason. Any comment on that?

Also, LaffALot, you seem like a pretty intelligent guy. Drop the whole "Stoolwater" act. It's for 5th graders and the OU fans who refer to Walmart as the OU Alumni Center.
dcood (2 years ago)
Right on cue Pick: OU wins a game and the opponent is immediately banished to DIII status. I'll repeat my bet right here: Texas beats Nebraska. Nebraska couldnt score 55 on air.
G-Block (2 years ago)
Funny stuff, Pick.
Glenn616 (2 years ago)
Dcood, actually, Nebraska did score 56 points at Washington. Texas is still a talented team, albeit a very young team. I'll go with Nebraska 24-20 over Texas, but I wouldn't be surprised if Texas won.
buster (2 years ago)
MexiMike, Picker does not want to talk about his lock pick of Texas over Oklahoma, unless Texas had won, then we would all read about over, over, and over. Can't lose when you take both teams to win.
The Picker (2 years ago)
Laff, one to keep an eye on as regards what OU has left is Baylor. Seriously. Any quarterback who can move his feet in all four directions is a threat to go all the way agains Venables.

The toughest left list?: 1. Aggies. 2. Mo. 3. Baylor. 4. OSU.
dcood (2 years ago)
True enough: If the Baylor kid was at one of the big boys he'd be the Heisman frontrunner.
