Greed Haunts College Football

We have received numerous requests for an opinion of the conference realignment junk.

Going to the Pac Ten is the stupidest idea ever. Want to fly up for the Washington State game? That'll be three grand for the two of you. The only good thing would be getting to obliterate Colorado again on a regular basis.

Going to the SEC is the second dumbest idea. You want some of South Carolina on an "off" conference weekend? The SEC is 2.5 times better than the Big 12 ever was and is to be avoided at all costs.

So it comes to the puny Big 12 adding some "boutique" schools and pretending everything is fine, which it should be good at by now.
What does Houston draw, 22K? Students won't even go to the SMU games. BYU is lame and can't play a lick and would be a perfect entry. Louisville gets a decent quarterback every nine or ten years and plays good hoops.

Going anywhere is nuts.

OU and OSU, stay where you are. Import some patsies. Mack is obiously coming apart at Texas. A 100-year old guy is coaching at K-State. Missouri rushes for 9 yards per game. Kansas? Has a nice personality. You seen what Lubbock attracts? So the Big 12 would be a shadow of its former self. What's wrong with that? That has BCS Bowl written all over it.

I looked it up. Either I blocked it out or am still so traumatized by the Boise State debacle I can only deal with so much pain at a time.
Good call by Danny.

away games in seattle, eugene, san francisco, los angeles, and tempe sound way more appetizing than a trip to ames, ia or manhattan, ks. GO WEST OU!

OU may need to purchase a plane, but i'm with Boomer. The West coast beats the heck out of Ames. It would be a great slap at Texas...you have your own cheesy network but we have our own 737! Kind of like the Big Bunny in Hef's heyday.

"The SEC is 2.5 times better than the Big 12 ever was and is to be avoided at all costs."

Must have been an off year in the SEC if they were only 2.5 times better than Big 12.

I agree w/ da’ Snicker,
Don’t move to another conference
Solidify the Big 12 &
import up to 7 nonAQ/non BCS schools
make them agree to 2 for 1
home & home schedules w/ OU & Texas

They’ll get a minimum of 7 to 8 games
@ home each year & Ensures close to 10 wins for
OU/Texas/TTech/Mizzu/OSU on a yrly basis

The other argument is to downside the Big 12
drop Iowa St & Baylor add one team &
Play 7 conference games & gives you
5 OOC to schedule
Once again, giving you around
8 home games a year.

I don't know what's going to happen.

But I've spent way more time studying and thinking about this matter than what I had for it because as somebody who actually goes to games including road games I care about it. And I'd like for the decision makers to show some common sense over all this stupid stuff one hears.

Picker, thanks again I guess for being that one eloquent and articulate voice of reason.

Don't Guess: Thank you for having taste. The rap against BYU to the Big 12 is location, location, location, soooooooo far away. So what does that make Washington and Oregon? Absurd.

doesn't it get cold up there in utah early in the year?

It's not the football where the geography throws a wrench in the works, how bout that Tuesday night hoops game in Eugene??? Good luck on the already scholarly bb players keepin up with their schoolwork.

I didn't think that the divisions would require very many long road trips. The way I understood it was that OU would be in a division with OSU, UT, TTech. Colorado, Utah, and AZ, AZstate. Which would mean only one? super long road trip per year. Of course I would prefer to see the Big 12 add ND, Louisville, Arky. Obviously ND is prob not going to come. Neither would Arky. Which means realistically the Big 12 should just add Louisville and BYU plus either Houston or Memphis. Memphis brings a great hoops team with a football team that at least has a great stadium. BYU brings some decent football but weird religious stuff. Houston would add nothing in my mind. Their football is good but the stadium is tiny which leads me to think that they have little interest in their football program from an attendance perspective. TU would add more as far as competitive sports goes. I really don't know much other than I like the big 12.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
