MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Oklahoma's guards took a giant step toward disproving the notion that theirs is a one-man team Friday. They might have to take a bigger step tomorrow against North Carolina.
To hear them in the locker room after elimininating Syracuse, they will relish the opportunity.
"I heard about that," Austin Johnson said of the criticism of OU's guards. "I'll bet tonight kind of shut them up. We knew all along our guards are good. We have some talented guards out here."
And when they play up to that talent, things like an 84-71 victory over Syracuse happen.
Was Friday night enough to, in fact, shut the critics up?
"We'll just have to see what ESPN says," Willie Warren said. "Every time we feel like we make a statement, they always have something new to say.
"We feel like our guards were going good (earlier this season) and they left us alone. But as soon as we went into a slump, they jumped right back on us, saying we weren't talented enough to get it done.
"As long as they keep talking, I feel like that's the fuel to our fire. Hopefully they keep saying negative things and keep saying we're a one-man team."
