Guess What Coach Should Be on the Clock
Published: 11/27/2012 4:46 PM

In the last three years, his team has a record of 21-15 going on 21-16.

His job is reported to be the best, and easiest, in the country: Open the corral gate and thoroughbreds will fight to get inside.

He is paid a good-sized fortune annually to finish just above .500 over the most recent three seasons.

Best recruits. Best city. Best budget. Best climate. Best coverage. Best of everything to run 21-15.

It's Mack Brown of Texas.

The only good thing about the insane salaries paid to football coaches is it has put the flops on the firing line quicker than usual. Auburn won a national championship a couple of years ago and just dumped its coach. Don't take the bread if you can't cover the spread. (Wagering is legal in Vegas.)

Texas is terrible at football. Most recently, TCU mopped the field with the Longhorns in Austin.

That Mack continues to avoid the heat greatly pleases OU and OSU fans.

Hope Mack stays at Texas a long time.

Mack's record the previous two years was 13-12, so I'm sure DeLoss Dodds and the Board of Regents consider an 8 or 9 win season a marked improvement. Mack Brown is not a bovine, he's a feline...and we know how many lives they get. Just like Big Tex, Mack will be back grinnin and greetin in Dallas when the Red River Rivalry rolls around next October, you can bet your herd on it Pick.

He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
