Gundy Says OSU Sticking to the Plan
Published: 8/2/2008 3:44 PM

Mike Gundy called the Oklahoma State head coaching job his "Yankees" job.
In other words, there is no other job he'd rather have.
He wants to be the guy that builds the OSU program from where it has been to consistent winner.
The Cowboys have been up and down and all around over the past 60 years. There have been some good things. There has been more bad things.
But, all of the things that coaches have traditiionally complained about in Stillwater seem to be going away.
The facilities, long the No. 1 complaint, will be among the best in the nation when completed next year. Recruiting has been on the rise.
Now, it is up to Gundy to deliver the most important element of a successful program - victories.
It takes a lot of things to be successful in football over the long term.
Tradition and history will take years. But OSU, no doubt about it, is doing its best to lay the foundation for future success.

John: Believe you are correct. It has been a slow process, but it has also been very interesting to watch the improvement in the football team. Last year, the improvement was late in coming, but I went to the Indiana Game and was impressed by the attitude of the players Told the Indiana Fans that they would run through our defense, and would probably win the game. Boy, was I wrong.

Sticking with the 18-19 plan?

Wasn't Bobby Reid, "the future"?

No doubt about it. Gundy's laying a foundation alright.

Of course you have to dig it up and lay it again several times but that's OK. Given enough time, odds are he'll eventually get lucky.

Improvement?

No doubt about it.

6-6 is much better than 6-6... and lord knows 6-6 is better than finishing dead last behind Baylor.

That was Sean Sutton's big mistake. He didn't start his 1st year by taking his team to the cellar (like Gundy did) so that he could show "improvement".

I think Ok State *has* to show improvement this year, i.e. win 8 games. Anything less than that will be a major disappointment for its fans and alums and yes, the players too. I can see them winning 8, with that schedule and its exciting offense, all OSU really needs is some improvement on the D side.
