Gundy Should Open Up

There hasn't been a better time, in recent years, to be the Oklahoma State football coach.
That's why Mike Gundy's decision to shut off just about contact between the media and the Cowboys just doesn't make sense to me.
If anything, considering where OSU football is right now, he should be shouting through a megaphone to anyone that will listen.
The Cowboys are ranked in the top 10, continue to haul in big-time recruits and will open the most luxurious stadium in the country next week with the highest profile game in the nation.
So, why shut off the media outlet?
It doesn't make sense. This is Gundy's chance to make some noise, spread the word about OSU football.
Instead, his decision is being debated by all of the media and he is taking a lot of criticism.
Perhaps he has his reasons. But, it seems to make more sense to me to open everything to the media instead of shutting it down.
Of course, if OSU beats Georgia no one is going to care.
That's the key. Win games and all is well.

Actually, the only media that cares is the Tulsa World. NOBODY in the OKC paper has done more than mention the "lockout."

In my opinion, there is a huge reason why Gundy isn't screaming through a megaphone to anyone who will listen.

What if OSU loses to Georgia?

What if Gundy parades this team to every media outlet there is, immense amounts of stories are written, even more hype, and then the Cowboys lose? The backlash would be tremendous.

As much as OSU wants to be in the house of the "Big Time" programs, they are just now knocking on the door. Until they are actually in, I think it is wise to take precaution and let the field play do all the talking.

Coach Gundy is paid to coach football and try to win games. We don't think any less of him if he doesn't want to chat to the press. In fact, quite the opposite is true.
