During last week’s Big 12 Media Days in Irving, Texas, Tulsa World representatives conducted a survey of conference players. One question was this: “Other than your own team, which Big 12 team has the best-looking uniform?”
Fourteen players responded to the uniform question. Oklahoma State’s Nike-designed black uniform – worn only once, in last year’s ESPN-televised victory over Colorado – got the most votes. Five players mentioned the black Cowboy uniform. Missouri’s black uniform got three mentions. Texas Tech got two votes and Texas, Iowa State, Baylor and Colorado one apiece.
Cowboy players and recruits say they love the black uniform, so will OSU wear it on a once-a-year, special-occasion basis? Before the Colorado game, the Cowboys had not worn black uniforms since 1994.
“Most of the Oklahoma State fans don’t like it,” Cowboy coach Mike Gundy said. “The fans who are paying for tickets – most of them don’t like the black uniform. They like orange. As soon as we go out in black uniforms, there will be 500 e-mails asking why we’re in black instead of orange. It would be something else I’d have to deal with.”
