Has OSU Football Lost It?
Published: 3/5/2010 3:53 PM

Does anybody over there read the papers?

Headlines from coast to coast proclaim: The Spread Is Dead!

Yet as teams far and wide are getting ready to man-up with pro-style passing and physical running, equally distributed, Oklahoma State has gone to the Houston Cougar cheeseball offense, two-yard passes and a cloud of defenders.

Like Houston ever did anything important.

The truth be told, Houston would rather be like Oklahoma State than its own self.

The spread is dead because the surprise element is gone. The bubble screen has burst. Spread teams cannot run or defend. You'd think T. Boone was calling all the scatter-shots.

If OSU ditches its rich rush heritage, they will be able to curtain-off much of the new stadium.

Didn't Houston beat OSU last year with that "Cheeseball Offense".

Yes they did. Bring back the 'BONE."

The Picker is playing one of his favorite tunes (the spread is dead, ditch the spread). Picker, it is time to but the drum away and pull it out of the closet in either October or November.

Your hoops prognostications for the NCAA tourney were pretty darn close. The Sooners imploded, hey even I could win with the Griffen brothers. The Cowboys found their groove (albeit sometimes like a scratched record). And sadly Wojo discovered that February is not his month for love...

OSU is going to be just like Texas Tech (when Mike Leach was their coach) with this new offensive coordinator.
They'll be a good football team, but they'll never be able to win the big game.

Speaking of broken records....

By the way Pick, what was Houston's total offense ranked again?

Houston beat OSU and Tech but couldn't muster a win over Air Force.

As a poke fan, that sounds pretty familiar.

Has OSU football lost it?? How can you possibly lose something that you never had?

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
