Heisman Winner: Enjoy the Moment

Let's interrupt this regularly scheduled blog for a brief question-and-answer session with former Heisman Trophy winner Jason White, conducted during a charity golf tournament in Tulsa.
Me: What do you know now that you didn't know when you were in college?
White: I think the biggest thing for me is how fast it went.
Me: All seven years, right?
White: All six years. You look back on it and it's just like a blur, it happened so fast. If I could go back, I would probably cherish the memories a little more or things like that, being around the guys and the camaraderie of it. Just the athlete part of it. That's the biggest thing I miss.
Me: But no one ever realizes that when they are going through it, right?
White: No, not at all. You are all there doing the same thing and it's funny because every player says the same thing: I wish we were still doing it.
Me: How would you enjoy it more? Would you just bask in the moment more after a big win?
White: I guess so. That's about all I would do.
Me: What do you still want to do that you haven't done?
White: I don't know. I'm pretty content with everything. I'm truly blessed with the things that I have gotten to do. I know that I have got my plate full and I've got to do a lot and I'm very thankful for that.

The only reason why Jason White is still relevant in any way is because the local media types keep him relevant.

He was a good college quarterback who made few mistakes and had wonderful talent surrounding him. All of which earned him college football's highest honor. For that, you get no argument from me.

What you will get from me is the ridicule for keeping this guy's college fortunes on the top of our minds five years later.

As a pro, he was the paper tiger people thought he would be. That takes nothing away from his college career but there are dozens of great players who will have NFL careers on CURRENT TU, OU, OSU and Ark rosters whom you have hardly mentioned, yet Jason White deserves more print.

Not that he deserves criticism, but he is so fove years ago.

It's not like he has sold out his name to a local business man to open up a restaurant to help him pay for his child support. That would be relevant to the times, wouldn't it? Of course, he would have had to played in the NFL for that.
