Hellhole Revisited

Oklahoma basketball coach Jeff Capel was caught on camera saying "let's get out of this hellhole" following a victory over Oklahoma State in Stillwater last season.
Hey, Byron Eaton, got any reaction to that?
"Not really," said OSU's senior point guard, who then elaborated anyway.
"I think that he was just saying ‘let’s go home, get out of here.’ Definitely, that’s something that is like an understatement to our facilities. I think we have some of the best facilities here and for him to say it’s a hellhole, that really just downsizes us as a university.
"That’s just more ammunition to us. We’ve just got to come out tomorrow and just not worry about all the things in the past and just go out here and play the next game on our schedule."
Capel was asked to clarify his hellhole comment last season and, upon further review, said, "I don't remember saying anything. Stillwater is a great college town, seems like. I haven't been there except for two times, less than 48 hours, 24 hours really. Gallagher-Iba (Arena) is a tremendous place to play, a lot of tradition, nice place."
Added Capel, "I would hope that people realize the things coaches say in the locker room don't necessarily mean the same thing you say to your team sometimes. If I did say what I said, I didn't realize that crew was with us. But I'm sure like everything else, it's a bigger story than what it really is."

having been to GIA about 100 times including high school events and college events ( both bball & wrestling). it is indeed a hell hole. i have yet to attend anything without being nauseated literally by the architectural design as well as the asthetics. the fans just add a crazier dimension when it is for osu bball. and was it really necessary to have eddie sutton court in such a large script? come on in just makes the place even smaller.

gallagher iba is an extremely nice arena...i doubt what capel said had anything to do with the facilities. probably more the rabid fans!

I'm sure Jeff was saying that a reference to the hostility of Gallagher Iba Arena...OU hadn't had a good record while playing against OSU in Stillwater. The fans in that arena, whenever OSU is on their game, turn GIA into a "hell hole" for the unfortunate visitor. It could be looked at as more of a compliment to OSU facilities, rather than something negative.

Who wouldn't say hellhole about being in STOOLWATER! No matter what the athletic facilities, it's stilllocated in drap, dreary Stoolwater, OK! Nose Pickens $ can't change where Oklahoma's Sorry University is located! OSU lowest ranked academic school in Okie land!
