The NCAA baseball regional in Fayetteville, Ark., where Oklahoma State is competing this weekend, is not even the biggest thing going on in town.
The baseball tournament at Baum Stadium is expected to draw large crowds and probably will set attendance records. Yet, just up the road on the Arkansas campus is the annual Wal-Mart shareholders meeting. Bud Walton Arena and the area around the Arkansas basketball venue has been transformed into Wally World.
Several hundred shareholders, Wal Mart employees and store managers from all around the world ascended on Northwest Arkansas for state of the company addresses, seminars and fun. There was a private concert Wednesday night featuring the Eagles for high-level shareholders and management officials. Thursday night there was an open concert featuring Hall and Oates and Kool and the Gang.
Let's see if there is some retro carryover on the diamond. If musical outfits that were popular in the 1980s stared in Fayetteville, why can't an OSU baseball program that had glory days in the 80s do the same?
