The OU football team needs offensive linemen, receivers, a consistent runner, defensive linemen, and it also needs for the quarterback to quit throwing it to the opposition. Plus this season's schedule is tortuous.

The OSU football team wants to be the next Houston, which hasn't won a big game since 1960-something. It will be using an offense that features three yards and a cloud of bubble screens.

The TU football team couldn't stop traffic in a school zone last season and couldn't get to .500. Numerous coaches have bolted.

The ORU basketball team lost again to Bismark, Butte, somebody like that, and under the current regime, hasn't won a game in the NCAA tournament.

The OU basketball team has been ridiculed in public so many times by its coach, it appears to have quit listening, and will post a losing record.

The TU basketball team scores 55 on a good night and hasn't been to the NCAA tournament in seven years.

The OSU basketball team is undersized and well coached and is 50-50 to win one game in the NCAA tournament.

Uconn owns women's basketball.

About the last time a state team did anything at the college baseball World Series, wooden bats were used.

Somebody said the OU and TU women softball teams had a chance to be halfway decent.

Clearly it is time to don Thunder gear.

Never fear, Mr. Picker. There's always WNBA Season. Get ready for huge crowds of 6,000 people! Start getting out your Tulsa Shock gear!

The OSU Cross Country team won its first national title, the OSU Wrestling has a shot to win another national title this year, the OU women's gymnastics team has a legit shot to win its first national title, and the OU men's gymnastics has a shot to win another national title this year. However, nobody cares about any of these sports.

Mr. Picker, Curling was popular during the Olympics so why not give it a try? As you correctly point out, we ain't doing so good in those other sports.

Help! The Picker wants attention from everybody and will say anything to get it no matter how much it lacks in substance or credibility!

Blogs coming soon from the Picker:

James Anderson sucks
OU needs to rehire John Blake
TU's academics are worst in state
Women like me a lot

Tattoo, I only pay close attention to Pete Carroll when he plays "your" Sooners.

Mike, thanks for the eye toward the future, everybody thought you only picked things after they were final.

Glenn and Gene, add Arkansas to the sports mess, and the circle of mediocrity expands toward record proportions.

And the WNBA team, somebody said it will announce a number of major signings soon, Steffi Graf, a wrestler, and the woman who won the downhill at the Olympics.

If the Shock wins its share, it will draw decently; otherwise, the mascot will be somebody frazzled getting shock treatments.

OSU was undersized last year; Matt Pilgram is a big difference maker.

They have a much better then a 50/50 shot at winning a game in the NCAA's and they might win two.

Of course it depends on the seed and match-ups; but I think you're selling them short. They have a legit NBA guy in Anderson; a little white guy who can get hot and hit three's; and a solid, strong kid in the middle. . Syracuse won a title with the same combo a few years back.

Not saying OSU is a threat to win it all, but a Sweet Sixteen wouldn't be a shock- they've already beaten the best team in the country once.

"Mike, thanks for the eye toward the future, everybody thought you only picked things after they were final."

Haha, well I can tell you that months ago I gave OSU more than a 45% chance of making the NCAA tournament--which is more than I can say for a "sports genius" such as yourself.
MexiMike (3 years ago)
Oops, wait, Pick only gave OSU a 40% chance. Not 45%. How silly of me to deflate the Picker's gross errors.

tattoo, you need to get back on your medications schedule.

Even though we may pick on the 'Picker', the guy is easily the best writer at either major paper in the state.. That said, did you get some cash on the side to actually mention the Thunder in a positive manner?? As said before, easily the best story of the NBA season, kinda irresponsible not to write about them if you write in Oklahoma... beats reading about Capel and the rest of the fools running that once proud program.

Hey Mike, nice call on your love affair with OSU. What was the K-State score yesterday, 100-50?

Not only would you miss picking the replay, you'd miss picking the replay IN SLOW MOTION.

For anybody's information, OSU was about exactly a 4 in 10 chance to make the tournament early. Without hindsight, you would have no opinion at all.

Dcood, stay close.

What does the K-State game have to do with OSU making the tournament? Last I checked, they were in regardless of the outcome of last night's game.

Back to the actual matter, in who's book were OSU's chances 4 in 10 chance? And if that were the case, what makes you anything more than a copycat? I thought you were the "world renowned picker" who puts other national experts to shame. Surely, you didn't take somebody else's odds and stapled your name to them, did you?

The only opinion I regret in hindsight is trusting that you ever knew what you were talking about in the first place. Everything else has been fairly accurate...which includes OSU in the tourney.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
