Here's a Vote for Bad Offense

There was a debate at the Cotton Bowl over whether it was bad offense or good defense that finally made the difference in the 21-7 Ole Miss victory over Oklahoma State.
We'd vote for bad offense.
Sure, the defenses made tons of fabulous plays. There were goal line stands on both sides. There were interceptions and fumbles.
But, if either team had shown any kind of offensive consistency, these teams would have soored far more points.
Instead, it took OSU making more stupid offensive mistakes in the final five minutes to allow Ole Miss to escape with the victory.
Give OSU's defense some credit. The Cowboys have come a long ways in a year, from one of the worst in the country to a defense ranked in the top 35 of the country.
Still, you have to generate some offense, something that hasn't been a problem for OSU in recent years.
But, ever since Zac Robinson took a big hit at the end of a victory over Texas Tech, the Cowboys have been nonexistent on offense.
Everyone claims he is not injured. That's hard to believe considering how bad OSU's offense became in its last three games.

I have to agree, the offense has been helpless since Zac's big hit against tech. There was no spark on offense, largely due to conservative play calling. If the latter was because of Zac's lingering injuries, the coaches should have given someone else a shot at qb.

This years's Cotton Bowl might be the worst college footbal game I have ever watched. Calling OSU's play calling conservative is the understatement of this very new new year. Short passes when long yardage is needed, and only up the middle runs, is a losing formula. Kudos to OSU's defense, but changes have to be made to the offense, especially to the play calling/caller.

With all due respect to the OSU players, the play calling and decision to leave Zac Robinson in until the bitter end, given so many turnovers and lack of offense, was disappointing. As an alumni, this game was almost as embarrassing to me as sitting through the Ohio State thrashing in San Antonio a few years ago. Please, Gundy, get it together.

I can't blame Gundy for being loyal to Robinson considering Robinson's contribution to the program and that this was his last game. The shocking statistic is that Kendall Hunter only ran the ball 9 times, averaging 10.4 yards per rush. Even though Robinson was injured, he could have been effective if the Mississippi defense had been forced to defend against Hunter. Gundy can be a very effective play caller, but every now and then he just loses it. It's like he had his game plan and would not deviate from it, even when the team's performance presented an opportunity.

One play that changed the game was the stupid fouth down call that Gundy made near the goal line. We've had trouble on the short yardage situations for a ilttle while. He should have run a play from a spread formation to stretch Ole Miss out.If he didn't want to do that he should have kicked a fleld goal and gotton the sure three points. Not maknig the touchdown had t be a huge blow to the psyche of the offense. Also,if gundy kneww that Robinson was hurt and couldn.t make the throws he needed to make he sholud have giving Weeden,Gundy needs to give himself a self evluation about his play calling for this game, but his grade porobably would be based on a curve.
