Hey Stan: You Owe TU A Football

Last week, I wrote about some of the sort-of eventful things that happened at Skelly Stadium during the life span (1965-1987) of the old press box.
One of the events was the appearance of a Major League Baseball Team. On May 5, 1966, the St. Louis Cardinals played one of their farm squads, the Tulsa Oilers, at Skelly Stadium.
Former Oilers public relations man Bill Hyden wrote me a funny e-mail after the story was published. I wish I had been privy to the contents of his e-mail before I wrote the story so everyone could have seen Hyden's anecdote in print.
Hyden said he suggested before the baseball game that TU football coach Glenn Dobbs throw a football from the pitcher's mound to Stan Musial at home plate, thus ushering in the transition from football to baseball.
Hyden had borrowed the football from TU and was under an agreement to return it after the game. That plan got botched when Musial, after catching Dobbs' pass, kicked the ball into the stands.
Oops.
The ball never came back. Thankfully, TU never sent Hyden a bill.
