Many have said that they would vote for LSU in the AP poll, no matter the outcome of the final game. That's because LSU won at Bama.

This is perfect, it's what the masses have been saying forever: Why even play the game?

The best thing that fair-minded people can hope for is an Alabama victory. It would split the AP vote between three teams, with OSU probably getting a tiny bit of support.

Imagine any system that could crown as champ a team that lost its last game.

Fans of any mindset -- spiteful of the BCS system, or proponents of a playoff -- deserve an Alabama victory.

I'm a bit split on this.

If Alabama wins, chaos ensues as you explained it, Pick.

But if Alabama loses (and by a bigger margin than the first game) then there is talk that they didn't deserve to be there in the first place...which helps OSU as well.

I don't put much stock into moral victories or stories of "what should have been." But perception does often become reality and it couldn't hurt to have the national media continue to talk about OSU in such a positive manner.

OSU fans sure do enjoy playing
the nat’l ‘chump sympathy card?

Memories are short.
The same mess happened in 2004
when undefeated Auburn got passed over
by “world’s greatest” OU team that got thumped
by K-St in the Big 12 champ game & double ‘thumped
by USC in the nat’l chump game

Last year, undefeated TCU, who won the Rose Bowl,
had the same argument as OSU

The BcS has 2 more years before
they’ll move away from controlling the bowls.
& just host one ‘chump game

Will this new, re-adjusted, updated
BcS system be better than the ‘ol way?
Doubt it!

LSU beats Bama
“Don’t Mess w/ Les” gets his 2nd nat’l title
Goes pro after that?

There's a national championship game? When were the playoffs?

Some people's memories are shorter than others; OU did not get thumped by K-State in 2004 - they beat Colorado in the Big12C in KC 42-3. It was 2003 when the Sooners were b*tch-slapped by K-State before losing another of Big-Game Bob's classics...this time to LSU in the Sugar Bowl. But minor lapses of memory notwithstanding, no one in their right mind should object to a playoff in college football - and the only ones that do are the oligarchs who profit from the pathetic bowl system and those who simply haven't thought it out.

Thanks for the correction wgspost
2003 was the year they had a split nat’l ‘chump
Fl St (ACC ‘chump) & USC (Pac 10 ‘chump) had valid
arguments of being passed over by OU
which lost the Big 12 ‘chump game to K-St
OU lost to Nick Saben’s LSU team
14-7 in the BcS ‘chump game
LSU was the BcS nat'l champion
USC was voted AP ‘Chump that year.

This year is the 3rd time
since the BcS championship was formed
that a team is appearing in the ‘chump game
that didn’t win its own conference
Neb.in 2001 & OU in 2003
are the 2 other teams who played
in the BcS ‘Chump game
w/out winning their own conference.

U ‘thunk w/ Landry back,
OU should be in the thick of the race for
next year's BcS nat’l championship

There's little question that the BCS' efforts to improve the national title selection process are flawed to such a degree that most of us 'old-timers' are pining for the good old days when the AP/UPI (cum ESPN) polls created at least enough excitement in the four bowl majors (Sugar,Cotton,Orange,Rose) to make New Years Day a true college football event rather than just another day in the snow that it has become. It worked for OU in '75 when we entered the fray ranked 2nd, and again in '85...and it created the same sort of opportunities for other champions as well. Laffalot cited several excellent examples of flawed BCS pairings in the title game, and to be fair, even in 2000 when the Sooners were undefeated, Miami had a better team than FSU (they defeated them on Oct 7, 27-24...) but was excluded from the title game because of an early September loss to Washington which activated some computer logarithm. Had there been a true playoff - even a four-gamer - it pains me to say that with Heupel's swollen elbow, we might not have brought home the crown.

Jones' return is no reason for optimism. You've gotta trust me on this one. He is simply not a "gamer." I'd rather we took our chances with Baby Huey Bell.

...and rumor has it that Drew Allen will transfer.
